I think Butch took the energy vampire idea from that author. I don't think this is a Shane Beamer situation.

Because the phrase is not Butch's. It is identified more with this guy. Jon Gordon. Author of some best-selling leadership/self-help books, like The Energy Bus (2007) and The Power of Positive Leadership.

See, Gordon was famous for using the phrase "energy vampire" in those books long before Butch borrowed it.*

So Dan was acknowledging the work of an author who is pretty well-known. He may not even be aware any of our former coaches ever used the phrase (remember, at the time he was somewhere else focusing on other programs and their needs).
