Dale Jones comments on Aguilar

Just hope if he wins the job the coaches work on the turnovers.
I'm not worried about it in Huepels system.
I'm also not as worried in general with such a sold defense, and the fact the team should score more TDs than last years 1st half scoring drought stretch.
Nico may have given them the best chance to win because of his potential growth and mobility but I think the offense will be fun again. At least we're used to TOs with previous coaching staffs LOL

Still, it's not reality to suggest we're anywhere near better off rolling the dice, as we are, with Aguilar or Merk.

While Nico wasn't the star of last year's team, he was a significant cog on a team that made the CFP.

Had Nico NOT showed his butt and left, we'd all be fine and hopeful that with our other improvements we'd be in the running to go back to the CFP. Would Nico have gotten better? Many do and many don't, as you say. The team should be better so even a "same mid performance as last year" Nico would not have been a bad UT team.

The question for UT is will Aguilar get ready because the SunBelt is long way from the SEC.

I get it that people want to spin "we're okay" from this and hopefully we are but the tendency to deny that a seasoned Nico wouldn't be a very decent asset to go with our other improvements is just not looking at reality. He would've been a great asset with strong receivers, a stronger line, etc especially because of his SEC experience and specifically his experience in Heupel's offense.

It's just the reality. Losing your starter after Spring practice is not good. Losing your starter who is in various conversations as potentially one of the better 2026 QBs in the NFL draft is not good.
We will look back on this thread at the end of season and somebody will be right and somebody will be wrong. Then the spinning will begin. It will either be I didn't say Nico was going to be great just he has potential and NFL has him on draft or others will say. I just said JA was putting up great numbers at App with Sunbelt players playing like competition. Like Finebaum or Colin Cowherd and others that put out their I'm never wrong just misunderstood spin and laugh all the way to the bank. The spinning will commence and everybody will be right in their mind just some ppl don't get where their view is coming from. Its all fun, that's why sportscasters with a knack for riding the fence are making a mint.

As I have shared before, I will forever hear Keith Jackson ask Frank Brotles “ do you think Tennessee can get any pressure on Testeverde?
The response was “ I don’t see how Keith”.

Check the the sack and rushed throw stats…..would have been more except for the fumbles.
I loved his line in the 4th quarter: 'Miami needs to score some points.'

I was at the Tropicana in Vegas and he walked by me with a blond just about as big looked like a valkyrie, he was a big human being as I've ever seen, Lou Ferrigno that is.
He is well-known to be very friendly to fans and co-workers.

So much of this is matching the QB talent with the team offense scheme...Hooker came here and just fit into the system with his talents. Nico came and not so much of a match for some reason. We can guess at why, but Josh's offense requires a QB to be agile, fast, accurate with the ball, and make quick decisions. To me, that is why Hooker thrived here he did all those things. Milton had issues with quick decisions and accuracy as did Nico. That is why they were not at that same level.

We will see about JA. He does seem to make quick decisions (right vs. wrong is up for debate) as is accuracy. He also seems to be pretty quick and agile.

Now, can he translate that to a brand new offense and quicken his decision making at the SEC level and improve accuracy to only throw to our players? That will be the question.

I also wonder if part of Hooker's success was that he had 2 years in the system. He was good-to-great his first year, but absolutely blew it out of the water the second year he had in the system starting.....Haven't had that since, so part of me wonders if the secret sauce is year 2 being the starting QB in Huepel's system.

It's all in betting the odds. Heupel recruited Nico like he recruited Merk, G-Mac, and Brandon because of their film, visits, etc and his idea of who would fit.

He never recruited Hooker.

He never recruited Aguilar.

In that, you may very well be correct. Heupel doesn't actually know what QB is best for his system but that's a much larger problem, if true.

No violence at all. He just let it be known he was not happy that I would not stop honking.

Another All American from the 80s, however, beat the s out of me one time. I was not in the wrong, but I also would not back down and called him things he was not, like a F’ing p***y.

I am not a smart man.

So, if JA lights it up like Hooker Heupel had nothing to do with it and since Nico was supposed to be generational turned out to be middle of road D1 and is rated the 10th QB in the B1G preseason that's all on Heupel.
Inherited Hooker & recruited JA from Portal Coached both.

It's not that at all. It's RECRUITING for your team who you CAN coach. If you end up with QBs and you do great with them, that's wonderful.

If you keep recruiting the wrong guys for your system, even if you manage to coach up someone who you happen to end up with, it'll catch up with you when you don't get lucky and end up with someone you can coach up.

That's the point. Coaching isn't JUST coaching. It's also recruiting well for your coaching scheme, your coaching up abilities, etc.

I was there. First stadium with drinks! Great game and drive home.
Tulane football Saturdays were the most fun for MANY years before they moved out of the Superdome.

That’s also where I got my first nosebleed.

Fun story for another time.

I’ll see myself out…
