This is one of those hires that is going to play great in upstate SC and be a head scratcher everywhere else.

Looks like Phil will take a little time off...I wouldn't be suprised if Chavis doesn't end up in the NFL though...

The Clemson athletic department and fanbase continues to demonstrate that victories over South Carolina are more important than conference championships.

Victories over SC took Tommy Bowden from hotseat to contract extensions on more than one occasion...and now it's gotten Dabo Swinney a job.

Anyone who coached at Tennessee is good enough to coach at a 2nd tier program like Clemson however they just make a "Bob Davie" hire.

Being a Clemson fan, this is a great hire. I was a doubter at first, but no one on the market could have stepped in and helped recruiting or gotten the fans excited about football next season.

JayTrain, I assume you live in SC and you should know more than anyone that Clemson-SC is life and death to these fans. We have yet to see if this will lead to an ACC Championship, but I have a good feeling about it.

At least he'll be fun to quote

how many times has a team hired it's interim coach and have it be the right decision? i can't think of a single example in football, basketball maybe, but not football.

Tennessee is a pretty good example of it working in football

Keep telling yourself that. This is essentially a punt by Clemson. They know there is no one of value that they can get interested in the job so they're buying a couple of years with this guy.

I thought this would happen after the win over SC, but I think this is a stupid choice. Clemson would have gone with anyone that could have won over SC, but with the history of SC/Clemson, anyone coaching Clemson could have beaten SC with the way SC always shows up at this game.

I'm with the carebear fan, hiring the interim coach will do them no good. WVA should have given Clemson enough reason not to do that. Oh well, glad to see they won't be doing any better for the next few years. :)
