So I know some of us has been wondering if CBJ is going to go after bigger DT's(300+lb). So I looked back at his recruiting classes at Cincy and CMU and it from what I seen here is how here are the numbers on how he has recruited on the dline I am just going by what the players were listed as coming out of high school:

Cincy(2010-2012): 9 DE's & 2 DT's

CMU(2007-2009): 8 DE's & 3 DT's

Of the DT's that DT's he did recruit only one was 300 lb's and the other DT's were in the 270-285 lb range.

I looks like from my observation and what CBJ and Janek have stated they are looking for smaller guys who are faster. Which make sense because we have an amazing strength and conditioning program and player can get stronger and faster to make up for the lack of size.

actually a few weeks ago, the coaches said they realized they need bigger d-linemen to compete in the SEC.

Well there is big difference in what you say and what you do. The say they don't recruit big d-linemen that much just pointing out what I have seen.

I bet it was also a lot harder to recruit guys that were athletic and 300 plus to CMU and Cincy, those huge guys are highly sought after

they said that and offered Matt Elam (who is over 300). Were also after Charles Mosley (who is over 300), and Jarran Reed (who is over 300). Calvin Heartlou (over 300). Abu Lamin (over 300)

edit: forgot to add McDowdell (over 300)

There is a huge difference between offering and actually signing them. I'm not saying they don't offer them or can't recruit them I'm just saying they may prefer the quicker DT more than the bulk ones.

My thinking too and we do need larger DTs in the SEC. They also have to be quick. Not many of those out there every year.

I believe that one and/or two of these gentlemen could complete this class on the defensive side of the ball. Championships are won in the trenches!

Yeah I'm think the question is where are you will to give a little. I'm thinking they are willing to give on the Size aspect a little more. A DE coming out of high school at 265 -270 can easily put on 20-30 pounds and play an undersize DT who is quick think Malik Jackson.

300lb is undersized? 295 undersized?

DL recruiting to me is going a lot better than any of us hoped at beginning of season. If they sign Mosely, just amazing class compared to last 5 years. I think they are signing the best athletes they can find on DL period and the size will be fine. Carr, Barnett, Saulsberry, O'Brien will be fine inside with Lambert playing inside during smurf package and outside on normal plays.

Well, you can always add weight in the weight room as well. But, agree with 2nd poster on his point.

& the way they run the S&C program, I don't think they'd mind a 300lb'er. They'd just trumpet in the spring how the 300+ lb DT they recruited lost 15lbs of fat, and put on 5-10lbs of muscle.
