It's on. Maybe it's always been this way since the World Wide Web came on line and is just now coming to the forefront. But lately it has taken on a very public, multinational flavor. The U.S. and China. Iran and China. North Korea, China and U.S, South Korea. Also lets not forget about Russia, Iran and US and China. Along with American Mobsters and Russian gangsters. Political powers are positioning themselves. Along with Iran claiming today that news is coming about a big step forward against U.S. software coming soon.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. But a good place to start a discussion.

Comments, thoughts, additional info or stories of any of these type things suspected of happening on your personal or work computer?

You would be amazed by what areas are deemed the weakest. The one area thats the easiest to fix.

Your technical expertize could give us all a better overview of the problem. MV.

Progress is the first problem... followed by a lax government work force dedicated to finding ways of doing nothing but making their superiors think they are invaluable.

This isn't new stuff, The US government was just slow to act and still hasn't got it through their head how serious this can be. The Military on the other hand cannot go much faster in their search for solutions.

Tighting the net.

Here's the difficulty. Most of these attacks come through zombie computers -- botnets, which are extremely difficult to trace. So sure, you could trace an attack to China but it could be controlled by a computer in The Philippines, which is controlled by a computer in Russia, which may then find its way back to China or it may find its way back to the Russian government or even to Iran.

The problem is proving where these attacks come from, and that's really difficult.

Michael McConnell, former director of national intelligence, warns that the threat of a cyberattack rivals nuclear weapons in terms of seriousness.

The USAF downscaled from AFCYBERCOM (P) to a Numbered Air Force (24 AF), and it’s up and moving gracefully at Lackland AFB. It will present cyber forces to the COCOM, Cyber Command (when that entity stands up).

IMO Air Force intelligence is the best intelligence we have, bar none, including the discredited CIA.

That and I know a guy who wrote much of the software on our first nuclear submarine.

I'm ready for a military coup, timocracy rocks.
