Personally, I think hiring Cut would be the easy way out for MH, and I'm afraid it would just be Fulmer 2.0

If you need a concrete reason, consider that one of the reasons why people at Ole Miss wanted him gone was because they were unhappy with his recruiting. Whoever we end up with, it has to be somebody with an excellent reputation as a recruiter.

Why not Cut? I am by no means a big proponent of Cut for UT head coach--he's got health issues, he's on the old side--but he's a proven offensive coach, a proven QB coach: and that is a good thing. The Vols have always been much better with him than without. He's got a very good track record in the SEC--and that's a lot more than most of the other candidates will have. He's not supposed to be a dynamic recruiter--but supposedly we would have had Pryor had Cut stayed, and you hire dynamic recruiters. I'm not lobbying for Cut, but there is a lot about him that makes sense.

Not 2.0 Offense would be good but not sexy. Well schooled. Defense would be up to whoever was in charge as DC. So it could work out but I want a sexier pic thinking bigger. Recruiting is what worries me about Cut the most he does not do it except for QBs.

Sorry guys, I skipped the last couple pages of posts so forgive me if this has already been posted...

I think that, by and large, SEC coaches are too familiar with Cutcliffe and his tendencies. While his offenses were productive, we often found ourselves abandoning the run too quickly. I also recall several games where we could NOT keep the defense off the field. I booed Cutcliffe's playcalling more last year than Clawson's this year (statement of fact- not saying Clawson is better).

He was a failure at Ole Miss. He can't recruit. He's boring. He has heart problems. He couldn't coach Peyton Manning to victory over the Memphis Tigers.
Thats a death sentence here and the main reason it would just be another retread hire.

I heard that Tennessee reps were at the airport waiting for Cuts plane to land so they could talk to him. Do you guys think Cuccliffe would come back to be head coach? I think he would be a darn good fit.

Please stop it with the Cutcliffe and Trooper Taylor stuff. We need to move on. :banghead2:

I wouldn't put it past them to hire cutcliffe. That would be on par for the way they do things most of the time up there.
