Cutcliffe calls for Tennessee family to come together

Has it occurred to anyone that perhaps the reason the "family" needs to come together is fulmer creating this instability by convincing Di Pietro on their cross-state trips that he should be AD? He muscled his way into the picture and that, and that alone, has made this situation chaotic.

This isn't the first time he's done this, btw.

"Couch Cut" Wish he could have stayed at UT. As solid a UT man as I have seen for many years . When he needed to become a head coach, we had no opening. When it looked like we might, I don't think his health would allow it. Going to Duke was the right move for him. Nowhere near the pressure in their football program as in UT's. His statements show his undying interest in the UT program.

There could be lots more going on here than most have even thought about.

Everyone knows that Cut is a great football coach and I have wondered for years why he hasn't left Duke for a HC job at a bigger program that will pay him lots more $$$$.

No doubt that Cut and Fulmer are great friends and both are great friends and mentors to Peyton Manning as well.

Many times it's been reported that Peyton is right in the middle of this AD search.

This article is a obvious sales pitch for Fulmer to get the AD job.

Looking into the future a year or 2 now...What if Fulmer has a deal already made with Cut that Fulmer will hire Cut as the Vols next footVol HC whenever the time is right to let buTch leave?

That puts the old UT "family" back together with Fulmer as the AD and Cut as the Vols footVol HC and just maybe Peyton behind the scenes helping with recruiting and doing extra work in the Summer with the QB's.

Just maybe with Cut as the HC he might get Peyton to agree for some time as the QB coach to send recruiting through the roof.

This is also something the BIG $$$$$ boosters might also really like to come true to put Tennessee back into the National Championship discussions pretty fast.

The logic behind these thoughts is very simple to see and if Beverly Davenport sees this as well and doesn't approve it she could turn all the BIG $$$$ boosters away from Tennessee really fast and that will hurt UT really badly in many ways.

If, and a big IF, this is what's really going on behind the scenes then it's also very logical that Davenport would want to slow walk the AD hire of Fulmer for more good press to come out on Fulmer and it to seem that her only logical AD choice could be Phil Fulmer after going through a so-called serious search.

Also to make all of this work properly all the BIG $$$$ boosters would have to commit in advance to whatever amount of $$$$ it will take to let buTch and his staff go and to go get whatever coaches Cut would want on his staff no matter how much $$$$ if would take to hire them away from whereever they're working now.

Logic says that this could be a plan in the works and logic also says that our BIG $$$ boosters, Fulmer and Cut would all want whatever it takes to put alaBubba back down in the rankings behind us and for our Traditional game against alaBummer to become a huge game that really becomes the National Championship game in advance of the playoffs.

If this was to actually happen then Tennessee would roll in the $$$ like alaBubba has been doing ever since nick saTan took over.

Now there's lots of things for my VN brothers and sisters to think about but think...just what if this is really what's going on behind the scenes?

VFL...GBO!!!

Good daydream post. Just don't think "Cut" wants the pressure as head coach at UT. Besides, he is getting a little long in the tooth for the UT job. I don't think Payton will ever do much more than he is doing now. (which is probably more than we know). Like you say, your post should lead to much discussion. But it likely won't, because its to long for most of our day to day participants to read.

Coach Cut can speak any time. One heck of a football coach, and one heck of a man! We were a lot better off when men like him had an office and a residence on Knoxville! I may not always agree, but I''ll listen respectfully...every time!
