This is an article from ESPN's Bruce Feldman, posted yesterday.
I didn't think Cut was really up for the Bama job.
Was I wrong? Is there a realistic chance we lose Cut to Bama? Are there any other sources or information on this?
2. Who will take the Bama job? The only "good" news Tide fans have gotten of late was that NY Times story reporting more academic shenanigans at archrival Auburn.
Filling the Bama vacancy has become its own soap opera, driven in part by the Crimson Tide brass apparently leaking details which allowed West Virginia to counter on Rich Rodriguez, and also by agents using the position for leverage for all their clients. Plus, there is plenty of trepidation from some possible candidates about the leadership doing the hiring. It's all a very combustible mix.
Who is still floating around? Navy's Paul Johnson, LSU assistant Jimbo Fisher and Tennessee's David Cutcliffe.
Oh, and an interesting little footnote to the Crimson Tide job is that whoever takes over will not be allowed to recruit Florida prep powerhouse St. Thomas, according to the Miami Herald. Longtime coach George Smith has sent a letter to the school president and athletic director after what he believes was the unfair firing of Mike Shula. Obviously stuff like this is never a good thing, especially with a school that regularly cranks out blue-chippers. But it'd be different if Smith were banning one of the universities from Florida. I think Alabama will be able to make do with the rest of the Southeast.
