Coach Cut clearly knows this is the real first road game...
TFP
Still, offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe said the young Vols haven't played at a road venue like Florida.
"This is first real road test, as far as noise," Cutcliffe said.

"California, if they bother to read this, will probably be pretty upset. But it's no comparison. We all know that.
"They tried hard out there, but it's not even close."

:eek:lol:Thanks for trying Cal...But Florida will be bringing the noise.

Prepping for the alligators
After watching some film on the Gators, UT linebacker Jerod Mayo said the Gators have run "maybe four or five plays" on offense thus far.
"We can't get very much from their tape, because they're not doing very much," Tennessee tight end Chris Brown said. "They didn't play too much competition their first two games. I think that's good for them."
Cutcliffe said he'll be spending most of his time looking at tape from the past two seasons, rather than the past two games.
"They will have a wrinkle for us," Cutcliffe said. "They will have something new, or two, or three. We won't know what that is until it unfolds. Obviously, I've watched every game Florida has played for the last two years, and I think we have an idea."

Vinson on D...
UT coaches have given freshman receiver Brent Vinson some looks in the secondary.
Through one day, Fulmer likes what he's seen.
"He's done better than I could have even thought," Fulmer said. "He's a very good athlete, and he has a good bit of experience over there (before college), playing in the secondary and at corner in man-to-man.
"He understands. It's a very positive outcome of the look, so lets hope that continues."
Fulmer did not rule out putting Vinson on the field against Florida, saying everything will be dictated by depth.
"It's kind of where we are unfortunately," Fulmer said.

Fulmer said he wants to get give true freshmen defensive ends Ben Martin and Chris Walker some snaps Saturday.

"I'm hopeful that they will (play)," Fulmer said. "Hopefully we can get them in the game pretty early and get the butterflies out. It's certainly not a lack of desire on their part. They just took the team-work we were doing over there and turned it into a scrimmage because they want to get on the field."

I hope Fulmer actually gives these youngsters a chance, from where I'm sitting we need someone to step up on D and make a statement , especially on the line.

I am not trying to be overly sensitive, but I think that was a dumb comment. There is no reason to insult a team and fanbase that just beat you - even if it is in a backhanded way.

crowd noise in berkely cannot compare to what it will be to saturday. the noise at the swamp seems to just linger and compound right on top of the field...so is the heat and humidity.

ok so Cut says UF probably will have some wrinkles for us Saturday, so do yall think we will have some wrinkles for them?

Well, even if I wasn;t trying maybe I am being overly sensitive - but I still feel like the way it reads it was a less-than-classy-statement. Maybe it just reads that way but when you hear him say it it doesn;t come across that way. But "they tried real hard . . ." just seems belittling.

Well, last year Cutcliffe had Taylor throwing 40 yard passes to Coker, so some trickeration is not necessarily out of the question.

I've said that this is the game Berry takes snaps out of the shotgun formation. He probably will not do that now considering he's starting at a position UT is thin at depth-wise. But if it does I told you first.

Im sure in the grand sceme of things, CAL fans will long remember the score more than Cutcliff's statement.

If Cut wants to see most, if not all of the wrinkles in that offense, he needs to look no farther than Utah a few years ago. They ran it to perfection. IMHO, those tapes would be more helpful than last year's F.U. films.

Watch the jump pass in goal line situations :)

I don't know about his hammy. I do know that Berry got quite a bit of work (more than Jones) in the shotgun formation this summer.

I think UT has been sandbagging a little bit with the some of the WRs, like O'Neal, that supposedly have this great speed. I'd look for them, especially O'Neal, to get a lot more passes thrown their way Saturday.

The no huddle vs. a young defense is the wrinkle I will be most interested to see. If we can catch them a time or two, good things can happen.

BTW, TFP also has a nice article about Cut/Ainge's thoughts on no huddle....

Coach Cut - phone guest on Gator radio:

Coach Cut was on Gator radio here just a few minutes ago and mentioned the following things concerning prep this week.

1. "We spent 45 minutes drilling with wet balls among all those who handle the ball, yesterday."

2. "Ainge's finger is a non-issue inless it gets banged gain, it'll still be taped, he is getting so used to it with the control he is getting with it, Ainge just might keep it taped the whole season."

3. "We practiced off and on during the week indoors with crowd noise and working on "no-cadance" snap procedures."

4. When asked if he will run the ball and control time of possession?, "We will observe which coverage UF will play and come out with and then decide how much he will run the ball. He said, he told the team to not get into a mentality that UT will run the ball all day or to get clock control oriented, because it tends to become a distraction to the hurry-up-offense that is trying to get more in, without trying to delay or eat up clock...oxymoron."

5. When asked about the weak DT's of Florida, he said "we have heard teams having weaknesses in the past and they end up playing better when they play Tennessee. We are going to use the entire field, length and width as well as game plan to use every area, whether others feel it is a weakness or a strength to Florida." We don't talk about weakness until we see it for ourselves during the game. You can't coach an offense on assumptions during the weak."

6. He metioned, he had wished he put Eric in the no-huddle-offense earlier because he read coverages very well, manages and "coaches" the team under center extremely confident. Cut said Ainge chose four teams on the schedule this summer to watch tape on so he would know their schemes, UF was one of them. Eric has picked apart the first two games of UF. He is He is showing us UF player's technique and "tip-offs" on how their defensive players line up and react to plays.
