Obviously the writing was on the wall after the florida loss, and the wheels completely came off Sept 30th after the epic beat down by georgia 41-0.

So to date they have had 2 full months to figure this thing out! How do you run off a lame duck coach during the season without having your guy? How long did it take for florida or UCLA to fill their vacancies? Now we are throwing up hail marries hoping for the best! F*#&ing unacceptable! We are the second most profitable program in the FBS next to Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Furthermore, while the administration is trying their very best to Botch this hire, they are making Tenn football the laughing stock of the entire country! It makes me SICK! I'm afraid they are doing permanent damage, the kind that even 5-10 years later when the smoke clears may not be undone.

I think the best thing to do now that we are in this terrible spot is to stick with an interim HC for now, and clean house! After the new administration is in place hire a real and proven HC by the end of the 18 season.

You used the word 'plan' in your title.

I'd be happy with a plan.

There was a plan. Sneak Schiano in before anyone could stop it.

The new plan is hire anyone as fast as possible before big money can move on Currie and the Haslams.

There is no plan. This is exactly what happened with LSU last year.... The only difference is the fans didn't accept Schiano like LSU fan's accepted O

You couldn't be more incorrect. Patience, son.

There is no plan. Currie and the AD are just running down a BS list, and we are down to the 3rd and 4th tier now

Great post you are exactly right, unfortunately we don’t have anyone with the balls to pull this off. :banghead2:

I submit that there are 2 plans.

1. Haslam/Currie to retain control.
2. Keep Haslam/Currie from retaining control.

I'm on board with #2.

No I'm right, son. They have known for 2 months, they just chose to sit on their hands and let the situation get into a full fledged dumpster fire. Now they are just pouring more kerosene on it with each Botched attempt to make a hire. We need a AD that can make an intelligent decision and close a freakin' deal!

The plan is to spin the wheel again, see where the darts land and go from there.

Well assuming the Haslams are ok with it.

They had a plan (Shiano). It backfired. Here we are.

Lol. They were just thinking of how to keep their clique intact. News flash: Pick a great coach and the clique can do whatever they want!! They all have to go. I will be disappointed if there isn't a huge protest on campus by Midnight!! Any later and they will hire a horrible coach!!

They don’t want a great coach cause Haslam has a man crush on schiano and wanted to use UT to get schiano a coaching opportunity and hope he succeeds so he could then tell everyone he was right to want him to the browns.

After that crashed and burned, all the other good options were tied to other boosters at their idea and haslam would have no part of someone else saying they found the coach.

And now here we are, Peyton has sold out the fans for a chance to work for the worst nfl team ever, haslam would rather hire a hs coach over one someone else suggested, and the rest of the admin is in panic mode not knowing if they should back the deeply entrenched haslam faction or the new faction that also is backed by the fans.

I think you are absolutely spot on...and THAT is a HUGE problem. People say "well other big schools have the same issues as UT"..yes..in a lot of ways...but not like this...not at this level. These issues with a corrupt, self serving booster like Haslam with the power he yields I do believe is unique among the big schools and a huge detriment to UT.

We sell our soul to this guy cuz he helps build a lab for us. Ridiculous.

Did anyone truly believe Mike Gundy was a realistic candidate? Whatever Tennessee offers, Okie State/T. Boone Pickens will either match or better. Perhaps this always was a ploy to make the hoi polloi believe something serious was underway.

The problem with the Tennessee job is the Tennessee administration - not the fan base, which is among the most passionate anywhere. Sure, we have our share of knuckleheads. The problem will remain until the powers that are really give a hoot about this situation. Until then no hope exists.

I had this same conversation with my son after GA game. He said fire Butch and said "fine, who have you got lined up to replace him? You don't fire a coach mid season with out having his replacement in your pocket." Since we waited until MO game to fire him I thought they had finally lined up his replacement. Guess I was wrong.

you don't need to go to North Carolina to hire a coach just so a coach is in place.
!
*** ******, If that is the reasoning, just hire Brady Hoke for a year and take your time and find a coach. He has been a successful coach for a lot longer than the prospective hires we are now hearing about!

Maybe we can make a run at Kiffin next season and the fan base will at least have something to look forward to.

But stealing a coach from NC ST who is also on the hot seat is plain dumb beyond all reasonable comprehension.

got to hire a coach today--then hire Brady for one year and keep Shoop too.

how smart do you have to be to do this job Curie is doing?

They DID. It was Schiano.
