Pretty weak post. 5 women's sports and a reach back to a prior season to pad the stats. Only titles there to talk about are football, men's basketball and outdoor track. Congrats to the Tide, UK and UF on those. The rest belong alongside paintball titles.

Go Gators buddy.

I didn't go to any womens tennis matches or track meets this year. Not sure what my attendance at a UF sporting event has to do with having pride in their accomplishments.

Go Vols LW!

It's the fact that nobody cares about it. You decided to care when you heard they won. Fine. But be honest , if I went to a Gator board and talked about how proud I was of women's tennis , they would give me hell for it. You know they would. I'll save my words for a sport that matters. :hi:

What about women's paintball?

I follow UF sports more than you know. I don't live and die with the results of a UF-Ole Miss dual gymnastics meet, but I do keep up with what's going on in Gainesville outside of football and basketball...always have.

And if you went to a rival board and started a thread about the CONFERENCE'S dominance..like the OP did here... chances are you wouldnt catch nearly as much hell as you think...unless of course the natives on that board had nothing to contribute to the topic.

Alums care more than fans. If my alma mater fields a sports team, and that team wins a national title, I'm proud regardless of the sport.

As for the conference pride, if UT was contributing to the ring count, chances are some of you would care just a bit more.

Of course UGA winning anything, ever, is the exception to the rule.

I'm a student/soon-to-be alum and the vast majority of people on campus didn't give a rip this year when softball was playing well, and most people couldn't tell you our men's and women's tennis teams have had quite a bit of national success (the only reason I even know is because my roomates work in the UTAD).

Nobody cares about anything other than football, basketball, and maybe, maybe baseball at the college level. End of story.

See that seems to be the purpose here. Make a list of team's that won this year and point out that Tennessee didn't win anything. Read my posts in this thread. That is what YOU have been saying. I wish we were on the list. I won't lie. But I'm not someone that pulls for the SEC just because we are in it. Most people don't. The better question is would the OP post the topic if Florida wasn't on it? Doubtful.

I too am proud when Tennessee wins a title in any sport. But like I said , some of the ones listed are pretty lame to brag about on a rival board.

That's your story, so by all means stick to it.

I remember attending volleyball games, gymnastics meets, baseball games and track meets while attending UF. Had a blast, and the price was right for a poor, starving student.

Considering the average volleyball attendance at Tennessee hovers well below 400, with well over three-quarters of those non-students, and considering that the volleyball team has also been competitive on a more national level, I'd say it's a bit more than a "story". Most schools I know of have to ask students to go to those kinds of events and put incentives on regular attendance to get anyone there.

There is a huge reason that those sports are called non-revenue generating.

Was it the point of the OP to taunt UT fans with the list, or was it the point of multiple natives to point out how they could care less about other SEC teams winning championships?

I say more the latter than the former.

We agree that a women's tennis national title isn't worth starting a thread over, but to suggest that no one cares is not accurate.

I don't know how much revenue UF volleyball generates, but it's not uncommon for 4,000 fans to attend games.

I enjoyed watching just about all sports, and if those sports happened to include tall, long-legged volleyball players, or short, flexible gymnasts...and tickets are free, I was there.

Then again I was a student at UF before you were born, so we didn't have all the modern day distractions kids have today.

So it's the people responding to a thread that caused the issue? Um , we didn't start the topic. Like I said , if Flordia isn't on the list , the OP doesn't even bother. You were the one who pointed out that we aren't on it. I said nothing about that until you brought it up. I can keep asking you questions and you can do the same. We are getting nowhere. I should be clear . I meant fans of other teams. I'm pretty sure I speak for all Tennessee fans when I say we don't care about women's tennis at Florida. I'm sure you and the OP know that. lol

Since i started the thread, i'll tell you what the intent was.

The intent was to brag on the league and the fact that its members currently hold 10 national titles.

Including most of the major sports.

Didn't think that would piss people off. My fault. Should have known better.

For people who dont give a crap about wonen's outdoor track, you were offended enough to post.

People are more irritated that you're bragging on behalf of the league when it is meaningless, as conferences like the Pac-12 regularly hold that many titles at any one time.

It's a stupid thread.

I doubt it was for the sport.:whistling:

This. I'm generally more a Pac-12 than SEC fan if anything, and the whole "We have more national championships than everybody else across all sports" thing is well and good, but I don't care for any of it outside of football and basketball, and baseball to a lesser extent.
