Curious about early commits staying on board

I never really follow recruiting this early, but it appears as though we're doing phenomenal, but my question is, how much stock do we out into the guys committing now? I mean they have a lot of recruitment left and a lot of time to flip, I'll hang up and listen.

Normally guys who commit early, in my opinion, stick because they know what they want. You'll have some commit on a whim and flip later.

However, when you look specifically at the 5 we have right now, ALL FIVE committed because they love Tennessee. None will flip.

And typically those who commit early do so so other teams will quit bother them. I agree it appears all are Vol fans and should stick.

I really hope your right, this class has potential to be huge in the future, especially if we lock down the rest of the legacies + top 5 in state

also being an early enrollee helps as well... less likely to flip if that's the case. :)

To me this class and current commitments, mean a little more than the usual....all of these kids seem to have some heart, hometown, legacy pride involved. Where I am usually always on pins and needles hoping we hang onto commitments, I feel more comfortable with these sticking....surely the coaches do as well. I believe we get to a bowl this season, show improvement and win a game or two we aren't favored in and these guys buy in even more. This class is taking it upon themselves to get recruiting and being the group that returns the vols to greatness...not just for themselves but for the LEGACY they are representing!

I think there's a point where early commits want to get together and make a good effort to help pull in other big recruits. In all honesty, if TKjr. had not committed, I don't think Hurd would have committed for a while. I could be wrong though.

Pulling the #1, #3, and #4 players in the state of Tennessee so early is huge considering how stocked the state is this year.

I totally agree with this. I love the job Butch is doing. He has brought excitement back to UT football. I`m not sure about the Thomas kid but I think the other four are here because of their love for Tennessee Volunteer football. I think that to them the reason they chose UT was more because of Tennessee than who the coach is. Thats why I think these kids will not flip. I said kind of the same thing in one of the threads this morning about Hurds comittment and am getting blasted for it.

I am as pumped as anyone about the way this class is already taking shape. My question is this: Are these guys firmly committed to helping turn the program around and do they understand Butch cannot fix all the problems on The Hill in one season? I guess what I'm saying is that if we go 6-6 or 7-5, do you think they stand firm knowing its a process or do some look at the programs that are in the midst of current success?

I'll worry about Hurd until he's enrolled in December. If it's one thing I've learned from recruiting, it's that Urban Meyer is a master manipulator. See: Bell, Vonn.

Never really had a good shot at Bell because of Dools. The fact that Jones had his attention as one of the top three is a testimony to he/staff's recruiting ability.

They all stick subject to none of the past stupidity occuring like horrid coaching during the season, going on probation, etc. There is a new sheriff and vibe in town.

I would be surprised if we lost any commits this year.

It all depends on how the season goes, if we do better than we're supposed to most will stick. If we suck it up, we may lose a couple. Most legacies should stick regardless

i don't think this applies to our current group but some players commit to schools to drive up their offer list.

See Mackenzie Alexander.

Let me reiterate, I don't think any of these guys are seeking that kind of attention.

Actually if you look at Hurds recruiting history and his top schools lists from last year the staff does somewhat matter. If Dooley was still here, still on the hot seat, with all the instability then there is next to no chance we land Hurd. Really up until CBJ was hired and started recruiting we were more of a secondary school than a possible destination for him.

Heard this afternoon on 100.3 that the Kelly family had changed all their numbers and that UT coaches are the only ones that can contact them.

They also seem to be doing so early so that they can help bring in more recruits. Solid group of great kids so far.

Until a kid's enrolled or an LOI is in hand, nothing is 100%, but as others have mentioned, the fact that several of our commits are legacies cannot be overstated. They and their families have a vested interest in UT football. Seeing the Vols struggle can't be easy and they know they can come and help turn it around.

Dont see why Coleman Thomas would flip. Didn't he say, "I am a man of my word?" and UT is a special place. Who do you suspect this? After all, every team in the state of VA offered him. JW
