You could replace "leadership" with "talent", "efficiency", "offensive prowess", or any other similarly minded word/words, but yeah. Nothing worth noting at the position since CJ Watson.

Also, timeouts, gameplans, lineups, etc.

He doesn't deserve the UT job. Never did. He was given the job due to circumstance, not merit.

In case people have forgotten just how horrendous an athletic director Hamilton was, he interviewed both Cuonzo and Gregg Marshall, who had been to the NCAAs seven times at time of interview...and hired Cuonzo, owner of (still) zero NCAA appearances.

I disagree.

This team has all the horses. Athleticism, rebounders, shooters, defenders. However, they have no basketball iq. None. That starts with the coach.

Preparation. Confidence. Poise. Closers. All missing. Get into crunch time and this team folds like a cheap tent. Impromptu timeouts. Poor inbounds plays. Confounding substitutions. Complete disarray. If not for the athleticism and length of these guys, they're a 500 ball club. The offense is a combination picket fence run and gun.

Cuonzo is an awesome man, but not an awesome coach.

The hallmark of a bad coach is consistently losing winnable games. I gotta say, I don't think I've ever seen a coach take a timeout in that form and fashion. Underachieving is so ingrained in this team's psyche that it's impossible to really achieve success

You think lack of a quality point guard is the reason Cuonzo cant coach his way out of a paper bag?

blame it on whomever. CM is in charge. Doesn't get his pg's into the game anyway, no matter who it is. pg's like to run the court and distribute and he wants his pgs to walk up, dribble across midcourt, pass to the wing and go stand in the corner. Then they both get stuck with the ball with the shot clock down and it gets ugly.

I'm not making excuses for Cuonzo. It's more of this: Cuonzo's inability to find a point guard that can run his offense efficiently and to their fullest potential will do him in, considering it's a major reason they're so bad in close games.

and DT got worse after given the starting job and being coached as a starter. Kid is long and can run and see the floor but is told to walk it up and run away from it.

There isn't a pg around that wants to play in that offense. At least not one with any sense.

But the point has been a big disappointment. Thompson is slow, and can't shoot. Barton has been a major letdown. Golden would've gave CM another outside threat.

Add Cuonzo Martin to the long list of "Summer's Eve" Hamilton's failures. People whine and moan about Martin, Dooley, etc. He screwed up the firings of basketball, football, and baseball coaches. HE is to blame for the situation today. Martin took the job. He didn't force Hamilton to hire him. His work is appreciated. Now, it's time to go.

Cuonzo is an awesome man, but not an awesome coach.

This team doesn't have much proven athleticism other than Mcrae and J.Rich

Shooters: Mcrae is a volume shooter, other than that this team lacks shooters

As for defenders the best shot blocker on the team is Armani Moore who doesn't get much playing time.

Martin can recruit . . . but is not a game management or game plan type of coach . . . Sorry, but Martin needs to Exit Stage Left . . . right after the NIT 1st game, as we will not see the 2nd round . . .

Motivation and energy.

The two things I didn't consistently see in the Martin era. Many losses were because we seemed tired or unmotivated.

Coach K talks about having to play angry or with an edge.

Martin can not recruit. UT has no bench because Martin is satisfied recruiting 2/3 star players or projects

May be but Thompson is a huge liability on defense. He has extremely slow feet.

I think a lot of these players with Pearl as a coach would have really shined. It is a shame. Martin seems like a good man and probably a good coach at a Mid Major somewhere but just not a high Major caliber coach. And, I don't think disrespecting Martin is called for. Just shake hands and go our separate ways.

Recruit? We still have no pg, no shooters, and no big man to protect the rim. 3 yrs running.
