Cuonzo sounds disgusted...

Man, if Dooley or Butch or Fulmer or anyone would be talking about us getting screwed when it was all in our hands, they would be getting pulverized on here.

I think CM is taking an awkward time to be vocal. Expected him to say we should've played harder and made it happen, but then again, he said he liked the effort on Friday. Hopefully, this is another youthlike response and he will grow from it.

Because we are a proud university. We shouldnt deny the opportunity to have a few more games this season, get in some extra practice, and carry it on to next season. Little boys take their toys and go home when they dont get their way, we need to act like grown men who taker their lumps and carry on.

I'm more interested in sending a message to the committee and the nation. No one cares about the NIT, players included. If you think that a half *** performance against Mercer is going to help us next year then you're lying to yourself.

Come on now guy. What message would us not accepting an invitation to the NIT send to the Committee and nation. Other than UT basketball is as spoiled and immature as their fanbase?

he should be disgusted with himself...BP would have beat memphis an Georgetown and we would be dancing. CM didn't coach them up in these games and these are the games that decided our fate. :loco:

How did a Pearl coached team do this year?

Lets win the NIT get on a roll going in to next year next year could be a very special season for the BB team, we could win the NIT i dont really see no reason we cant we are just as good and better than most that are in it lets go win the damn thing, go VOLS.:good!:

Yeah, at the very least it gives more experience in a one-and-done setting. No reason not to take it seriously. I would say that winning nit would maybe get the attention of the committee for next year, but that's obviously not the case since kentucky won the ncaa last year wasn't invited to the dance. But I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do in nit

It's probably been said but our performance this year wasn't strong enough to merit a definitive invite to the tournament. Frankly, the entire conference is esepcially weak this year. I could be surprised but I don't see much noise coming from the SEC participants. Two losses to UGA, an unimpressive loss to Bama in the tournament. Yes, the UK win was impressive in its breadth and beating UF was nice but I don't see any other wins that made me think, "we can make some noise in the tournament."

The team sleep walked through the first half of the season. They have no one to blame but themselves.

He may not lack "heart" on a personal level, although I think he lacks the ability to fire his team up. Im sure he is disappointed, Im sure the team is disappointed -especially the seniors who started their careers as a shoe-in to the tourney-, as fans we are all disappointed, clearly. He has been criticized all year long for waiting until it was too late to voice his opinion, and the negative effects it has had on the team (ie not calling out the refs about Jarnells physical play in games, rather waiting to petition the NCAA afterwards; playing ineffective lineups; negative body language of our most pivotal players when the game is still winnable, etc). Those are not good qualities for a winning coach to have, hence probably a really good reason as to why he has never been the HC of a tournament team. His attitude projects onto his players and it shows. We all saw it in the BAMA SECT game when every player already felt like we were in the tourney, just like Cuonzo said beforehand, and they became complacent. BP, for all of his faults, would fight for his players on the court and often get ejected from the game doing so. In essence, making a statement to everyone watching that he would do anything for his team. You would be surprised how far that goes with the players, the officiating, and how we are perceived by every conference foe. I know Bruce is gone, I know hes not coming back; I just use him as a comparison because he was our best coach to date, and he was a winner.

I don't think Bruce ever got ejected. Also, you don't have to be overly animated to support and fight for your players. I think you saw what it meant to his players when McRae darn near cryed when he fouled out against Bama.

I think some are selling our coaching short. I have questioned some of his strategy, and that is fair game. But, I really do not question his motivation for his players. Two years in a row, his team seemed dead, and they made runs and showed they will play for him.

Given that Mississippi beat Tennessee twice, you might want to think up a better example.

Not really, because if we played the non-conference schedule that Ole Miss did then we would have had 22+ wins. They also played Auburn and Mississippi State twice. It wouldn't matter that they beat us twice.

Head to heads are not the determining factor- its resume, total wins, and quality wins. It really is not that difficult. Ole Miss did not have one win in the Top 100 that was out of conference- not one. They only played two OOC teams that were in Top 100. We played 7 Top 100 teams OOC.

Just play who you want and win- that is what the Committee rewarded.

Blah, blah, blah....MTSU weak schedule...blah, blah, blah.....SEC slighted.......blah, blah, blah. Here's an original thought - don't get swept by Ole Miss and UGa and don't lose twice to Bama. UT would be in the tourney if they took care of bidness. Man up, accept defeat, and move on instead of thinking we deserve something for a piss poor effort.

Exactly. We don't have a Rah-Rah guy. It's just not his way. People criticise him for his interviews. He just doesn't like to do it. I've noticed that his whole time here. If he had the option to just coach and recruit without all the publicity stuff, he would. And there's nothing wrong with that in the least. I seem to remember a certain Rah-Rah guy (two actually) from the football staff that this fanbase hates. Trooper Taylor and Kiffin ring a bell? Now we have someone who shows poise and control over his emotions, but is hated for it. Make up your damn mind.

As for the MTSU stealing our berth crap - if anybody deseved to be pissed at this, it's UVa (who beat us) and Maryland, who beat Duke. These two teams deserved it more than UT. Apparently, the NIT committee thought the same when they seeded the teams.

Because this system isn't consistent. 4 years ago this same record would've gotten this TN team into the tourney. They need to have some actual, real and definable traits they pick from for who makes it and doesn't. Not, "Oh this is what they consider," but

"Win conference tourney? In. Ranked top 25 in the polls at the end of the season? in. RPI/SOS/BPI/etc in the top 50 and you're not already in? In."

It's too subjective at this point when it needs to be completely objective. My biggest fear for a football playoff is that they will do something like this and screw over a better team that should be in for someone else based on subjective reasons.

The NCAA basketball tourney selection logic, when applied to the football "playoffs" that are a'coming, is going to be a disaster without some real work between now and then. :crossfingers:

Virginia and Maryland didn't deserve anything- both had resumes worse than ours. But, I am not getting into that debate.

Agree 100% we lose to horrible teams, sleep walk until Feb and can't get past the 2nd round of the SEC tournament or NIT for that matter. We do not deserve respect until we stop losing to bad teams, win some games on the road and show we can compete in a tournament.

Yes we should have taken care of business. Doesn't change the fact that teams with worse resumes got in over us.

Funny part is, if we would have scheduled patsies and won a bunch of games, only to be turned away cause of our lack of quality schedule, people would have said we needed to play a harder schedule.
