Culture of a fanbase

In one game we had 6 turnovers, in the other we didn’t. Equally does not apply. Nice try. Why is it so hard to see improvement?
People see improvement in different way. Some see it within the game, others only care about the result. If in the game is your perspective,.youve seen small improvements. If the end result is your perspective, you havent seen improvement. Nothing wrong with either.

Just like anything else, moderation is best. We should have high expectations, yes, but not unrealistic. We should support our program, yes, but not unconditionally.

The problem we have is not many people know how to practice moderation. Most either feel it’s thier duty to back this team with blinders on; or its thier job to endlessly harp on every flaw they can find.

Personally, I think the ones that spout constant negativity have the greatest potential to be detrimental, but neither absolute is the correct way to approach things.

That implies that a different area on the team was so poor that it equated to the 6 turnovers in another game, therefore reaching the same final differential. Why is it so hard to see the consistent shortfall?

Culture change is coach speak for the last coach sucked.

Fans far and wide have latched onto it to make themselves sound intelligent on message boards.

I would like to see a team that can play hard and smart for 60 minutes for a change. An offense that can break some big plays and a defense willing to go out and knock the hell out of the other team. Do those things, and the rest should start coming together.

All this kumbaya BS that keeps getting spewed around on here is getting old. It's the players on the field and the coaches on the sidelines that sets the tone for the program. Not a bunch of guys sitting behind a keyboard.

me and volunteerhillbilly talkeda bout this culture thing a few weeks ago, and not to rehash the whole thing, but i firmly believe there's a lot to the culture of any orgnaization.

that said, you're 100% correct on the message board impact, and what "culture change" really means...lol.

Are you saying we didn’t play better against Ga vs how we played against Fl?

We didnt play much better. Most just thibk since we lost by 26 to Florida and THEN #2 UGA must mean we've made leaps and bounds when really not much changed. We will see what this team looks like off a bye week but the improvement so far this season has been minimal.

You are acting like just because Neyland isnt full then the fans arent pulling their weight and that we need to look at ourselves somehow. I think there are less than 10 fanbases that could match the loyalty UT fans have to their team.

I absolutely agree with that.

Any organization has a culture or attitude inside it which can be healthy or toxic and it can have an affect on production. Key point being inside the organization.

I just think it gets talked to death among fan bases and not just ours as a catch phrase for all that ills a program.

Exactly. We did play better. Was that so hard?

Fans need to fan harder. UT flag at your house? No? GET ONE! UT stickers all over your car? No? GET THEM! Closet full of Tennessee shirts? No? GET MORE! Blindly following a team and ignoring everything bad about them? No? PUMP SUNSHINE HARDER!

This will work.

Let me give an examlple:

At first I thought poop tasted like poop. However, I ignored that taste and believed that it was cotton candy. Now, whenever I eat poop it tastes like cotton candy.

Moral of this story: Don't eat poop...unless it tastes like cotton candy.

Playing better than we did against UF doesnt mean squat though. We still haven't played to a level that gets us a single SEC win this year much less upsetting Auburn. I think some of you may need to really look at last years team and then be reminded tvese are the same guys we have this year and that you dont go 4-8 just because of bad coaching.

Sure it means that we are improving.

I expect us to keep playing better than the week before. That will get us to a level to get some SEC wins. How many SEC wins? Who knows? I’m still going to enjoy watching us win.
