Croom could be 'mismatch problem' for defenses

Love the kid, but I don't expect a huge year from him.

I think he'll contribute and catch some balls, but I don't know that he can be much more than a situational guy you can throw in on certain sets.

Im most definitely rooting for him. He deserves it.

I have felt for some time that all of our TEs have been under-utilized. If Dobbs has trouble with the deep balls, then why not a 5-8 yard flat route or over the middle? Under Saban, Bama has had tremendous success throwing to the TE in clutch situations and their QBs are game-managers at best.

Hopefully that taste of Alex Ellis in the bowl game is a preview of things to come. You need good TE's to make clutch 3rd down catches, even more clutch redzone catches, and when u got ones like Wolf and Croom, to stretch the middle of the Defense and work that seam.
Hopefully we utilize the position better this year.

That is such a useless statement without knowing what you mean by "can throw the ball down field".

Is that a 60% completion percentage? 65%? 70%? Is that with multiple 30+ yard passes a game? Multiple 40+ yard passes a game?

That ambiguous statement could be accurate all the way to completely farcical.

Tl;dr: Platitudes are useless.

I don't think it's a useless statement. I think the only point he was trying to make is that it's clear our passing game has been lackluster. If the passing game as a whole improves then we can have a very successful season and possibly make a playoff push. If we continue to have to rely on solely our running game and Dobbs can't place the ball where we need it, then we could lose 2-3 games.

I don't think there is a benchmark completion percentage we have to meet, it just needs to be noticeable improvement.

Farcical? Bro.

Agree. Our TEs caught about 30 balls last year, 23 or so from Wolf and Ethan is still here. If Croom somehow has 25 catches for 300 yards or so for 2-3 tds, he will have had a very good year and the move to TE a big success.

I picked up croom earlier this week for my fantasy football team, just in case he goes off. My 2nd TE. I've gotta good feeling about that pick up.

Love the guy for sticking it out and trying everything in his power to get back onto the field. With that said I'll believe it when I see it. He's almost always injured and because of that he has never been a contributed consistently. I'm rooting for him and hope he proves me wrong but I just don't see it happening.

There are many things to be excited about and this one of my favorites. If Croom can adapt to blocking, there is a another chain of formations to run plays. Dual TE to 4/5 wide and no defensive personnel changes.

He's been so dedicated and worked so hard since day 1 he walked on campus.

No player can control if he gets injured no matter who they are, it's football and it happens.

Without so many injuries slowing down his progress the CROOMSTER would probably be in the NFL right now and 1 of our favorite players the last few seasons.

I wish him all the best and I hope he breaks out and lights it up this season.

Go get them big man!

Team 120, climbing the rankings WIN by WIN...VFL...GBO!!!
Hands down my favorite player on the team, When he has played he has produced and given all the setbacks he has faced he never let his head sag just kept pushing.. Reminds me of David Martin and hopefully he can have a similar Career on both levels.

He has been a good blocker since he arrived in Knoxville. Blocking will not be a problem for him.

blocking at wideout against corners half his size and chipping unsuspecting safeties and linebackers is a bit different from taking on defensive ends and linebackers coming off the edge. All reports say he is doing fine just saying to clarify.

Hines ward was a feared blocker as a WR.. put him at tight end and see what happens

Apples and oranges...Ward is 6'-0" tall and weighs around 200 lbs whereas Croom is 6'-5" tall and weighs 245.

maybe he will take the attitude of "well, I've been here like 7yrs and have only made it through one season without getting hurt, so I might as well go all out in my final season and leave it all on the field"...

Every year is supposed to be Croom's break out year. I doubt this year will be the one just like his past years. He's a big guy but I just don't think he has the skills or mentality to be a top player.

Our TEs should catch 50 passes, minimum, this year--and if they don't something is wrong. They DO present matchup problems, and they tend to be big targets not too far from the line of scrimmage--and that is why they have been such a huge part of NFL offenses for a long, long time. Of course Croom should have been a TE from day one.

As a Panthers fan who's used to Greg Olsen being so instrumental in our offense, it's frustrating to see our TE's being underutilized. Hopefully that changes this year!

How many times last year did Wolf make a big catch in the 1st quarter and then we never heard from him again the rest of the game?
