Have made me realize how spoiled I have been as a UT fan...

I was born in 1981 and have always pulled for the Vols but I didn't really pay attention until about 1989 or 1990...

So in the time that I have closely followed the Vols the QB progression has been: Andy Kelly, Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Tee Martin, Casey Clausan, Eric Ainge....

There were some brief struggles in there as we transitioned from one star QB to the next(i.e. Colquit and Helton before Manning, Matthews and Suggs before Clausan)...and there was the whole 2005 debacle(but I put that on the coaches more than the QB's)...

But in my almost 20 years as an avid Vol fan this is the first time that I've had to deal with a truly bad QB with no viable No. 2 to replace him...

So for those of you who are older than me that remember the early 80's and before....when was then last time UT had such a bad QB situation?

I'm sorry man but you butchered some of those names... I do agree we have been very very solid the past 15 years at qb.

I hate that we assume we have no viable replacement. We can't do much worse! Lets open the competition for QB. Ucla beat us with their 3rd stringger straight out of highschool!!!! Lets give ours a shot. If he is good then we have him for four strong years! If he sux.. oh well so does Crompton!!!

While I agree with the sentiment, UCLA's QB played Division I football at San Jose State for a year, then went to Junior College and put up monster numbers. He was not straight out of high school.

The QB situation now isn't that bad. Crompton said he was having fun out there......isn't that what truly matters? And on top of that, he said we SHOULD have beaten Florida. I will chalk that up as a moral victory in my heart.

I stand corrected. I was basing that off info communicated during the game but have found these stats backing your correction...

Kevin Craft was chosen California State Community College Player of the Year for his performance at Mt. San Antonio College, where he completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 4,231 yards and 44 touchdowns in leading the Mounties to the state championship game

Okay...I'm glad you agree...but clue me in on the names...

I realize now I had an a instead of an e in Clausen...who else did I butcher? Did I leave a t off of Colquitt?

One thing I don't understand is how we claim Nunes to be the next great QB and wish he was here now. And although I can't wait for Nunes to get here, he is only the 10th best prospect in the nation. Guess who else was the 10th best QB in the nation in 2006? BJ Coleman.....he's here now and could play tomorrow but we don't even give him or Stephens a shot. So I guess we will just wait for Nunes.

First Benji....now Crompton! Note to Heath Shuler....talent evaluation is not your strong suit!

I've been a Vol fan since 1966 and I'd have to say that the weakest QB was Jim Maxwell in 1971. He had a great team around him with Majors, Watson, Rudder, Walker, Nettles, and yes, Fulmer! Maxwell was basically just a "fill in" until Condredge Holloway came along!

are you suggesting that Crompton is a fill in till Nunes comes along? I like it!

I wasn't around for Maxwell, but I can't imagine it being much worse than the Steve Alatorre days.

Cromptom will be as much a memory as Sterling Henton, AJ Suggs, Joey Mathews and Randy sanders when they started.

If i was in CPF spot, Crompton would have so many splinters in his backside his butt would look like a porcupine.
Put Stephens or Coleman in give em a shot at least. You never know what will happen, And to all you critics out there exactly how could it get any worse with the other guys under center?
