Crompton's Decisions When Running/Scrambling

If you notice in the clip, Major was standing right behind Haden. That's why I brought it up.

Hmm. I actually think Crompton is better rolling out than in the pocket. He doesn't have to think as much and has better decision making, accuracy, and touch throwing on the run, than in the pocket. Getting hit hard on a scramble might be embarrassing, but its better than turnovers and incomplete passes. His pocket awareness is the thing that kills him. He has trouble making the right reads in a timely fashion, and struggles with feeling the rush around him. He struggles knowing when to just step foward or to the side in the pocket and throw, and instead takes off scrambling or forces a throw from a cluttered position in the pocket.

In my opinon getting him rolling out more lets him see the field better, and not have to think about moving around since he already starts the play on the move. I can't tell you how many times from the pocket I saw him throw bouncers on out passes, get balls batted down at the line because he didn't slide to a better throwing position, or throw an int because he forced a ball with guys in his face when he didn't have to. The root of his problems are his feet. He has to think about moving around and thinks whenever he moves from his initial setup position it automatically means he has to start scrambling around. Then after a few bad plays from the pocket it all goes to his head and hurts his confidence. And all of it because of his feet. A good pocket QB's feet movement should be almost involuntary. Its why Peyton's happy feet weren't such a bad thing.
