I think Eric Berry should have to fight for his position too. Since day one, this staff has said that everybody but Eric Berry has to compete for their position. Don't get me wrong, I freaking love Eric Berry and I honestly believe that he is already one of the best DB's in the history of College Football but don't single him out like that as being above the comp from the rest of the team. I understand that it is probably just a joke but I don't like it.

Don't take this wrong, but get over it. Berry works harder than anybody on the team and has a great attitude. If he was the kind of person that would lay back after hearing that news they wouldn't have said it. Everybody knows Berry is the best player and I think it makes everyone else try to work as hard when the coaches say that.

I'm a little surprised that McNeil is at such a light body weight....280lbs?!? That's tiny for an OL in the SEC. Wasn't he playing last year at around 295? Anyway, I hope he can add some bulk before opending kickoff this season.

Eric Berry can't even practice in full-contact drills this spring, because he is recovering from his shoulder surgery.

So I don't know how much competing you want him to do... do you really want Berry sitting on the sideline while his backups are playing and coaches are saying Berry doesn't have a spot yet because he hasn't earned it?

Berry is the starter, he knows it, coaches know it, players know it, and opposing offensive players know it. No reason for the coaching staff to waste their breath trying to play head games with Eric Berry, because they will lose... they will lose!

Yeah, what separates the truly great players from the merely good players is the self-imposed work ethic that they bring. They are self-driven, self-motivated individuals who do not need someone pushing them. Athletes like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow, etc. The reason they are head and shoulders above the rest is not simply God given talent. It's that they take their talent and combine it with an unbelievable work ethic and will to win. That's what Eric Berry posesses and that's what the coaches and the players know.

IF they tried to claim that Berry would seriously have to compete for his position... they'd have lost credibility in saying the other 21 were "real" competitions. No one would have believed it.

I disagree. The previous staff liked Sullins and with the S&C improvements he may be seriously pushing McNeil.

To answer the other poster, McNeil has always struggled to gain and maintain weight. That opens the door when the coach is intent on having a real competition for playing time.

Didn't Kiff say he wanted smaller, quicker O-Line? IT makes sense McNeil is 280 and that's actually not a bad weight for his center position.

Centers in the game today have to get out on LB's but also block DT's. That's one of the reasons T Cody presents so many problems. Few C's now are able to handle his size. The ideal size is right around 300 lbs most of the time though they can get away with a little less. McNeil is still too small.

UT has been going lean on the OL since Cut came back. This is just a continuation and refinement of it.

I am sorry but our kicking situation scares the hell out of me...he is terrible and we do not have anyone else...:banghead2:

yeah we never really talk about it but the kicking game could be a major problem. the big stories are about the qb battle and how the lines are playing, but kicking might be our biggest weakness this year. I, like many others, have taken it for granted that there would always be a colquitt here.

Well if we could take care of our jobs on offense the kicking game would practically be irrelevant, for the exception of PATS.
