Crompton bandwagon alive once more

Thanks, Griff. Nice article. I feel that Crompton is going to shock some folks this year. As long as he is average the Vols will make a fuss this year.

Thanks, great article. I don't see how anyone can read this and not be rooting for the guy to succeed.

Good write up, Griff. I would have to say your articles are getting better as we get closer to the season.

If Crompton was playing with concussions last year, it would explain a lot about his play.

I like the article. And you're right, it shows a lot about his character. I admire him for his determination. I hope this year is a good one for him. I want him to succeed and not just because I want the team to succeed, but he has been through an awful lot.

Good luck, Jon. Go get'em.

Kiffin has tailored some elements of the offense to Crompton's strengths, namely, throwing off bootleg action.

Look at USC qb's rolling out frequently... Isn't it more like Kiffin's offense suits some of Crompton's strengths?....

Good article. I'll admit, I was as hard on Crompton last year as anyone. I never booed him at the stadium, but I sure wanted to. I hope the guy has truly improved as much as we think he has, and I hope he wins the job and goes on to have a stellar year. I for one, will back him, and support him all the way. Now that I know what all he has been through, I don't see how anyone could not root for him in his last year as a Vol.

I think that may be attributed to Kiffin telling Crompton he is tailoring it to his strengths to build some confidence in the kid. I have slammed the kid at times for coming across somewhat arrogant or distant in interviews, but we all probably would have to admit the kid's confidence had to have been shot all to hell. This may just be Kiffin building him up IMO, and if so I think it's a great ploy. I'll still wait to see it in a game or two before I get on the bandwagon though.

I do love the quote about never leaving the University...

Seems like a great young man. He was a TOP 5 QB out of HS. 3rd OC in his 5 yrs is not an easy thing to deal with. I think he will do a very good job this year.

NO ONE should have to deal with the crap he delt with last year from the fans. It's not like he was not trying his best. HE wants to do well more than anyone.

I wish him the best!!!!!!!

I admit that I was sucked in by the spam for the first time in ages.

I really, really want to believe every word of it. I saw some plays and throws last season that make it really difficult to swallow, but a bum ankle can definitely destroy accuracy in throwing the football.

I don't like the implied piece there that says he basically needs a set direction to go when he gets to the line, but we knew that empirically last year.

I am rooting for Crompton and hope he can do it this year. But he must learn to make plays in pressure situations during games or, as the QB, he can take down this entire Football team with mental mistakes.

UT needs a servicable QB NOW!

I've always liked the kid, not often you get a top rated QB prospect thats grown up bleeding orange. Hasn't worked out like any of us would prefer to this point... but if he can pull off just an average SEC QB season I'll be elated. It may not be out of the realm of possibility.

The simplification and working to his strengths should pay dividends.

Part of the reason for the NEED for simplicity is because there will be many new receivers on the field....I have said for years UT has lacked playmakers and that has been a large part of the problem.

Now the Vols actually have a few, and to get them on the field things must be simplified.

UT's greatest success over the past 12 years has come with simplified schemes: 1998, young Tee Martin had thrown 17 career passes entering the season. 2004, Vols made a run to the SEC title game with two freshmen quarterbacks and Rick Clausen.

Not saying Crompton will have an all-star season, but he will prove adequate.

Yes, a bad ankle does have a large effect, and so do concussions -- if you have not had one, let me tell you, it sucks.

You can't concentrate, and you get sudden migraines that make it hard just to see straight.

I'll bet Crompton didn't tell the coaching staff about a few of them, but his roommate knew because he saw JC suffer the ill-effects
