It's yet to be seen, but right now the 2008 signing class is looking better than advertised. Guys like Montori Huges and Tauren Poole are looking good. Other guys like Aaron Douglas, Marlon Walls, Rod Wilks, Herman Lathers, Willie Bohannon, and Steven Fowlkes could be nice players. But I realize it's the spring, and when guys return from surgery guys like Rod Wilks will fall down the depth chart. Not to mention when Brown, and Oku come to town Poole may fall also.

I still dont feel bad for Fulmer. If he had this talent then he should of used it.

I don't think the OP was trying to make a case for why we should feel bad for Fulmer. Just pointing out that the 2008 signing class, which many on here were highly critical about, appears to be coming into their own with some very nice surprises in guys like Poole and Hughes.

Thank God we snagged Montori in that 08 class. If I recall correctly we offered him only a few days before NSD and he accepted right away. Talk about a sleeper, 2 star and we were his only big offer.

A familiar pattern that lingered throughout his tenure. Not getting the most talented players on the field soon enough...

Would you rather have most talented or best? In a previous thread you talked about how you didn't care that Creer and Morley may be off the team because if they can't hack it then they should be purged from the team or whatever... Yet, Morley is arguably one of the most talented players on the team....

Screw talent, get me the best 11 on the field that gives us the best chance of winning.

That class was sub-par. Walls and EJAW were our only at the time decent signees.

sub-par according to scouting services. What we are seeing is that there may have been a few sleepers in the class. Very difficult to judge whether or not the class is sub-par yet seeing as how most arrived on campus this past Fall, and next year will either be RS freshman or sophomores.

What were you thinking about your photo? And also didnt mean to ruffle some feathers just stating that that fulmer didnt play them. looks like our new staff is bringing out the best in our players or they aren't on the team anymore. Loosing creer and Morley might look bad but your only as strong as your weakest link. So if we bring in greats and loose dead weight then so be it.

Rod Wilks and "nice" do not belong in the same sentence.

Reading way too much into it and trying to split hairs. I was using most talented interchangeably with best in that instance. But you get the crux of what I'm saying. Obviously, I would like the "best" players to be on the field and for younger players to be developed more quickly and given a chance to contribute.

Not sure if I'm completely sold on Morley's talent...

What I'm saying is that to place blame on a coaching staff for not "developing" players quick enough seems pretty flimsy because you have to come at it with a biased of how much potential a player has. In other words, if a 5 star recruit rides the pine all four years, then we will say that he was never developed properly. But what if he just wasn't that talented (like you say Morley is, and others have included Chris Donald and Crompton as well). Whereas the 2 star recruits that end up starting for us and having great careers are never equated as having been developed...

A coaching staff can only do so much. At the end of the day it comes down to how mature an 18-22 year old kid is.

Well that's all well and good to place the blame on the motivation of the players... I agree with that to certain extent. But it is still a cop out for Fulmer to the extent that none of the other top programs in the country seemed to struggle to develope highly rated talent the way Fulmer did in his last 7-10 years. Seems like USC, Florida, LSU, UGA or Oklahoma were all able to get the most out of these type of players. Should I assume that everybody else was just fortunate enough to have 18-22 year olds that were more mature and self-motivated than the guys on our campus... and that it was just a string of bad luck in recruiting and player evaluation?

you have to motivate the players and playing time is what motivates them and they knew under Phil that they didn't have much of a chance of playing until at least soph or junior year so why should they get motivated until then. Kiffin is giving everyone a clean slate and is promising to put the best players on the field wether they are a true freshman or a 5th year senior walk-on. I think this kind of coaching will help turn us into a USC or Oklahoma type of team with the very best players on the field.

Amen brother --do you recall how a talent like Jamal Lewis didn't get on the field until the fourth game because he didn't know his blocking assignments! After we lost to Florida then he was able to take the field. If Brown is the real deal I think we will see him in September.

We may be saying the samething next year about why we didn't see more of Poole...

We aregetting close to conversations about talented players not getting on the field because more talented players are on the field ? Isn't that the idea ? We all have our favorites and the coaches are paid to also have favorites. In 2 yrs will we be upset and post because player x didnt see the field if the starter was great ?

These posters think that some of the backups would have made better starters than our starters did...that's the issue here.
