CPF not getting raise

Do you think Florida and Norte Dame used that as an excuse not to fire their coach? No. And now their programs are better off.

Coaching is like recruiting players...you just dont know how it will play out until it happens. Coaches with proven track records wont do as good in some situations (Holtz at usc) while coaches from lesser programs will be outstanding (Meyer).

Obviously, you're taking a chance. But is the chance worth risking the status quo? One more 4-5 loss season and I say yes.

Meyer won with Bowling Green and Utah. He had a pretty good track record. Zook consistently lost to mediocre programs with alot less talent than his teams at Florida

Weiss was a highly regarded offensive genuis.

Fulmer hasn't done the best of jobs but I would take a 9-4 season before going through what the Alabamas of the college world has done. His losses this year where to the eventual national champs by a point, LSU by what 4, (can't remember the final score), Arkansas (who had the best player in the nation) and Penn State. The only loss that was unjustifiable was Penn State, and Fulmer is not to blame because Arian fumbled.

The 05 season was disaster yes but the seniors quit on the team about halfway through the season.

The offense does get too conservative at times and the special teams have never been good, but I would much rather have a coach like CPF than a Saban or a Miles.

Who's out there that is available that would be better than Fulmer right now?

butch davis is a guy i liked, but is at UNC now. jon gruden could be a possibility since his wife is from knoxville. boise state or rutgers head coach would be good as well. to me there are alot and i mean alot of better head coaches out there. the big problem would be finding one that could recruit as well as fulmer, but i'm sure it could be done.:good!:

Holtz took over a Gamecock program that had gone 1-10 the year before he arrived. After going 0-11 in his first year, he went 8-4, 9-3 with consecutive Outback Bowl victories, the winningest 2 year period in USC history. He finished his career by going 5-7, 5-7, 6-5. His tenure was one of the highpoints in South Carolina football history.

Boise State's coach has only been on the job for 1 year. Let's see him win without Hawkins' players

Schiano is not leaving Rutgers anytime soon. He's pulling a Bruce Pearl up there with their football team.

Gruden would be here for a couple of years and then bolt for an NFL job.

If you can't recruit well then you are not meant to coach college football.

I was surprised he didn't punch his ticket this year. With several high profile jobs for which he would have been in contention--especially Miami--it make you wonder that maybe he just likes the gig he has.

Butch Davis will leave UNC as soon as an NFL team comes calling. Why would UT pay a guy to watch him leave in 3-4 seasons?

He's got a good thing going up there. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side....

UT has to get their coach when the season ends. Not right now. There will always be some jobs that stick out at the end of the year.

you never know about coaches, but it is better to make a change and try and get better. i guess we could just go 8-5 or 9-4 every year and it is all good. that is what we have now.

I guess AD Hamilton reads Volnation because I recall a thread stating Coach Fulmer should not get a raise but his assistants should.Smart man........:)

For what it's worth -- which is probably nothing -- the rumor is that Schiano would like to get the Penn State job when Paterno finally retires/dies. But it's nice to think that it might be something less cynical that, wouldn't it? Every time you start to think that these coaches might be capable of something other than naked self-interest, somebody like Rich Rodriguez comes along and sets you right...
