While I think he wouldn't be fired week 4, if he loses to GT and UF- people will be calling for his firing. And justifiably so IMO.

Butch would have to go 5-7 for even a chance that UT would fire him

Bowl games and butts in the seats satisfy them. It means money is coming into the AD

... what a moron.

I'm one of the resident "evils" for making people face some inconvenient facts here. But this is ridiculous. Jones' seat is warm and losses to GT and UF would make it very difficult for him to survive.... however Cowherd's hate is irrational.

Cowherd has turned into a publicity seeking buffoon. Thought he could move away from ESPN and onto FS1 and still be relevant....hasn't proven to be the case so he's trying hard to stir up some of the biggest, most passionate fan bases. These comments are just stupid though. There's no scenario outside of some off the field scandal that sees Jones being fired during the season, none. I think he's safe and will be our coach in 2018 virtually no matter what the record is this season.

Rosen was supposed to be the second coming of Tom Brady after his freshman year. UCLA went 4-8 last year and Mora isnt on the hot seat? Makes sense. Colin has always been a huge west coast homer. Loves LA.

I don't think Currie wants to fire his head football coach in his first year on the job no matter how bad it gets. But anything worse that 8-4 will certainly crank up the hot seat talk for next year, and justifiably so.

All of this.

Butch could go 4-8 in 2017 and 2018 before the admin would basically be forced with no options left to fire him. They don't want to fork over any separation money.

Cowherd is an idiot. Why doesn't he concentrate on A&Ms situation, where there is a REAL hot seat situation. Sumlins own AD confirmed he wins 10+ games or is gone. Hell, spin some yarn on who could take that job. Lolol. I would actually listen. Because I think that's actually probable to happen. I would even bet if Sumlin has a bad enough loss during the season he's gone. Like if Sumlin sh*ts the bed against Arky or Miss st....he's probably getting Les-Miled '.

This. I don't think I've ever seen hot seat talk more out of touch with reality than what we've seen with Jones. No one thinks where we're at is the acceptable peak for the program but firing someone with back to back 9 win seasons when you've been down for as long as we have and the guy in question inherited something far worse than a plain ole dumpster fire is flat insane.

Cowherd is wrong here.

Earlier this year, he did call Tennessee a Top-10 job. He went on to say that Butch isn't the guy for the job and that Tennessee should hire Chip Kelly (yaaawwwwnnn). He said that Butch was a gym teacher, not a coach.

I can't think of many other coaches who wanted to come in and revamp the entirety of the program, sell the hell out of it, and rake in back to back to back classes like Butch did. Cowherd implied that the game day coaching and big stage of Tennessee football has surpassed Butch's abilities and capabilities to handle it.

Cowherd did say that he thought Butch was a good coach for the job back in 2015. Herbstreit was on his show singing Butch and Tennessee's praises and they were all in on a big year for UT. He called for Tennessee to beat Alabama on the road. This was in like June or July of 15 though, and he was pretty much off the Butch/UT train after the "blown losses" to OU and UF.

Cowherd and Herbstreit have both kind of taken a "the program and players are good, but the coach is in over his head" approach since the Florida loss in 2015. Cowherd is louder about it, but Herbstreit says it without saying it.

I think UT would absolutely fire Butch for a bad season. I just don't think we'll have a bad season.
