Cowherd on Fulmer

I like Cowherd as well, mostly because he is not a stats or facts guy. He is more like a "sports sociologist" and that turns a lot of poeple off, but I find his themes to be entertaining. I still miss Kornheiser though.

I despise Kornheiser on Monday Night Football. PTI is where he should have stayed

So I looked at some numbers...

'06 19 guys had 1,000 yards. Ocho Cinco led with 1369

'05 19/1,000 yards. Steve Smith led with 1563

'04 23/1,000 yards. M. Muhammad led with 1405

'03 14/1,000 yards. T. Holt led with 1,696

'02 22/1,000 yards. Marvin led with 1722

'01 25/1,000 yards. David Boston led with 1598

Looking at it I would say a 1,000 yard season is a quality season but not that difficult to do. Heck if Qadry Ismail and Kevin Johnson can do it then just about anyone can.

Yeah, it's crazy to think a 1000 yard receiver in the NFL is quality.

But, the arguement was that one 1,000 yard season doesn't make Kevin Johnson a quality wr. Does anyone think Qadry Ismail was a quality NFL wr?

Shaun Ellis has had an NFL career every bit as good as Al Wilson's. Chad Clifton was an NFL starter on good teams in Green Bay. I believe Cosey Coleman was a starter on a Super Bowl champion. As much as it pains me to say it, Travis Henry has been a quality NFL back. There are a number of guys, depending on one's standards, who are borderline. For example, Darwin Walker has been a productive player for good teams.

By IE's standards, Peerless Price and Cedric Wilson are stars, with Eric Parker on the verge.

Heck man, based on YOUR standards in this same thread Cedric Wilson is quality. Also, please refer me to the post that used the word "star".

Cowherd is pure entertainment and he makes some great "outside of the box" points all the time

I guess I consider myself a Colin Cowherd fan. I don't always agree with him but I think for the most part he's pretty dead on durring his rants. We are a elite program and we need to stop living in the past. I like Fulmer and greatly appreciated what he has done in the past for our football program but it's clear his time has passed.

Wilson and Price are both better NFL players than Kevin Johnson. I was simply making a rational extrapolation of your standards.

Based purely on your opinion because the stats certainly do not support that claim, at all. But that's ok. The fact you consider Wilson a quality NFL receiver ends this for me.

For those of you who missed it, Colin Cowherd went on a rant about Phil Fulmer and the erosion of the Tennessee program. Many of his points have been discussed here for years, but it's interesting to hear it on national radio.

Cowherd discussed the parallels to Tubby and Lloyd Carr...talked about how Fulmer has allowed the program to erode, and says it's time for Fulmer to go.

Cowherd says Fulmer was successful in the 90's for 2 reasons: His teams were always more talented than the competition...and the coaching in the SEC was average.
Now, Fulmer is in the bottom tier of SEC coaches. With Spurrier, Meyer, Richt, Miles, Tuberville, Saban, and Brooks ahead of him, he's no longer able to win games on talent alone.

He talked about Tennessee losing 5 of its last 7 bowls and how that's unacceptable...he went on to say that it is inexcusable for Tennessee to EVER miss a bowl game...it's not the NFL, there's no reason for a school like Tennessee to EVER have a season without a bowl game.

He said "Tennessee is a fantastic job, and Fulmer's an average coach..average coaches go to average schools like Ole Miss, not Tennessee. Tennessee is an excellent job, it requires and excellent coach."

Again, none of this is particularly insightful, it's just interesting to see that the national media agree with most Tennessee fans...our standards aren't too high, we deserve a winner.

CowTurd is also the same radio goob who called VOL fans cry babies after teh 2005 season. He stated then that CPF was a good coach and that UT fans should be glad to have him. Radio goobs like to stir the pot.

In this case I find his "flexibility" on the issue very appealing.

He did what many radio goobs do. They stir the pot. Putting much stock in very much of what they say is not wise.

most of the time these guys simply give voice to public sentiment, so if nothing else you have a better idea of what the country is thinking about us, that we're a rapidly eroding program.
