Troy came to Knoxville in November of 2012. Tyler Bray had the greatest statistical game in UT history (530 yrds and 5 TDs). Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson had huge games at receiver. Patterson had 219 yrds and one touchdown as the Vols escaped with a 55-48 victory.

A life long fan and Bearden High grad, David Rudder walked on to the UT football team instead of going to Vanderbilt on scholarship. In 1976, he was granted a scholarship by Bill Battle, two hours before he resigned. Rudder and new Coach Majors didn’t see eye to eye, but when Jimmy Streater went down with a hip injury vs Alabama in 1978, Rudder got his chance. After throwing a pick on his first pass, David went back out and completed 11 consecutive passes (a then record) and 2TDs. That day was the highlight of his playing career. Rudder would play sparingly the rest of the season, throwing for 218 yrds during the ‘78 season. Rudder would go on to become a dentist and good friends with Coach Majors until his death in 2018.

Willie Gault was a special player for the Vols, with his big catches and game changing returns. His biggest game receiving was vs Vanderbilt, in 1981. Gault had two long receptions of 72 yards and 80 yards (TD), in route to 217 yard performance. The Vols escaped with a 38-34 victory.

In 1957, Bill Majors came to Knoxville. He made his name as an All-SEC safety, but was a capable single-wing tailback. In 1958, Majors had 294 yards rushing and completed 17 passes for 215 yards and 2TDs. Majors would become an Assistant Coach for the Vols and was tragically killed in a car crash in 1965.

In 2000, Casey Clausen made his first career start vs Alabama in Knoxville. In one of the best “starts” to a career, Clausen went 17-24 for 213 yrds and 2TDs, in the 20-10 victory. Clausen would finish his career with a 3-1 record against the hated Tide.

Pvt. Clyde "Ig" Fuson was killed in action on 4 December 1944 while serving with the 84th Division near Aachen, Germany. His number (62) was retired and his name is on the "Ring of Honor" at Neyland Stadium.

You can find his obituary from the Middlesboro paper here: https://img.newspapers.com/img/img?...1581316885&h=37fa26fe9b2dac2841aa87b3162bee07

In 1976, Joe Hough was a backup Quarterback to Randy Wallace. Wallace was injured various times and Hough got extensive playing time vs Florida and Memphis State. For the season Hough was 14-31 for 204 yrds passing and rushed for 1 TD.

Side note......in the ‘77 game vs Doug Dickey and UF, Vols players, led by Hough, start a brawl after UF attempts a pass in the end zone with the game already in-hand. Today, Hough is a PGA Golf Professional.

Lol, this line cracked me up about the brawl....Jim Noonan and Danny (Pert) Jenkins thought it was more fun than the county fair.

By the way, you can’t get any tougher than Jim Noonan. I remember every one at Neyland would yell Noooooonaaaaan after he would make a big play.
