CPF was named head coach at Auburn.

I just thought about it tonight and kind of laughed. I was just thinking about the reaction of the Bama fans. They would go ballistic to say the least. Their most hated coach at the helm of their most hated opponent.

:naughty:

They wouldn't offer the job and Fulmer wouldn't take it even if they did. At 58, he's too old to want to deal with the likes of Bobby Lowder.

I think Auburn gets Muschamp. $3 Mill sounds better than his 900K as coach in waiting at Texas.

Oh, I agree it will never happen. I'm just throwing out a thought and thinking about the reaction it would get.

I just got back from my sons little league basketball game. I jokingly told some Auburn fans that I heard they were getting Fulmer. Judging by their reaction, I think Auburn fans would be more mad than the bammers if that happened.

Wrong forum, but any/all coaching changes seem to be on topic here. . . I had a friend say that he heard from people in Mississippi that State might be interested in Fulmer. Would this be too soon for him to consider it (if State was interested)? It seems to be about the level that Fulmer could end up at considering expectations and such. Just a thought. I just think that there are too many job openings available for a really good coach like Fulmer to sit around and twiddle his thumbs for a year.

I would rather Fulmer have gone to Clemson. It would make me happy to watch him beat Spurrier.

why would Bammer fans be mad?

Muschamp's already said he's not leaving UT. Mack Brown will probably coach a few more years, then Muschamp will take that job at $3 mil plus. Auburn should go after the coaches at Utah or TCU---both would take the AU job for $2 mil

Yeah, I've also pondered this scenario. Initial reaction would be consternation. But after that, most Bama folks would be all smiles. Auburn would be tying itself to a coach who was invited to resign due to mediocre performance. Arguably (this past decade...) CPF didn't maximize the potential of his players while at Tennessee; it wouldn't bother me if that malady shifted to Auburn. The Auburn-Tennessee clashes would be fun to watch. And Bama would have added incentive when playing Auburn.

IMO it would be a bad deal for both CPF and Auburn... but stranger things have happened.

Only thing that would make this scenario even more entertaining is if CPF were piqued at UT, so he takes the Auburn HC position for minimum wage. I suspect his UT buyout stipulates UT will make up the difference in salary if he's hired elsewhere; so we'd get to watch CPF & Auburn implode on the field while UT pays CPF's salary.

BTW, good luck with your new coaches and in getting your program back on track.

I agree...I guess the thread starter was going under the assumption that bammers feared fulmer or that he would be successful there.

Sorry - I gotta call you out on this one. When Fulmer left he had a 11-5 record vs. Bama. Now I'm not saying it wasn't time for him to leave, but as a Bama fan what give you the right to call it mediocre??? You guys know plenty about mediocre coaches. While you have a "good" one right now, I kinda view it as playing with fire. When a better job comes around, he'll drop Bama and leave a nice big pile behind on his way outta town. Either that or he'll resign when you get caught cheating.

uh, hate Fulmer would be a better word. In BAMA, Fulmer is actually a four letter word. And that would be SOOO funny if he ended up coaching(probably won't happen but still funny) in the State that absolutely despises him.

He couldn't beat Spurrier at Tennessee.

Neither did anybody else. Fulmer beat him three times, I don't think anyone in the SEC did even that well.

And in the big picture, the thing that both men were trying to get every year, the final score was 1-1.

bammers wouldn't mind Fulmer going to Auburn. They could build a cushion in the Iron Bowl victory margin.

Fulmer is thinking seriously going to MSU. Look out for Leach in Auburn..he turned down the Wahsington Job. Urban Meyer is looking at Notre Dame for the future...Weiss is out after next season.
