Why would you wish that on the Gophers? What have they done to you? Although I could relish the thoughts of Phil freezing his bejeebers off there, I wouldn't wish that on them. It would be nice to get him away from this program though. I wouldn't recommend Fulmer to a div 3 program.
Your attitude sucks, especially when talking about someone who has given so much to the University. Maybe it's a product of your age, I'm not sure. I agree Fulmer had short comings as a coach, but you should show more respect to someone who won a NC for this school.
Here's several reasons why you bring Fulmer in if you are in Minnesota:
1.) He's loyal.
2.) Minnesota fans might be content with 8-11 win seasons, even with a few bad years sprinkled in here and there. While UT fans may not be content "just getting to" our conference championship game, I bet Minnesota fans wouldn't complain about being in their soon-to-be conference championship game 5 x's in the next 11 years. Maybe they even win one or two of them.
3.) He brings instant credibility and name recognition to the program.
4.) He has recruiting contacts all over the country and especially throughout the south.
5.) He would form a great tandem with Tubby.
6.) He would be jumping into a program that's rock bottom, but has a new stadium and a desire to win.... exactly what Fulmer has said he wants. Only way to go is up!
7.) Fulmer's style of play is conducive to the Big 10. Whereas the speed of the SEC game passed Fulmer by, that will not happen to him in the Big 10. Ohio St and Iowa are not burning anyone off the field right now offensively and RR might not be around long enough at Michigan for his offense to matter.
8.) Everyone deserves a second chance to reinvent themselves and I believe Fulmer would make the most of it if they give him a few years to turn it around. Fulmer is clearly motivated, whether it's because he still has a chip on his shoulder or otherwise, I think any team in Minnesota's position loses nothing by signing a 4 year, incentive heavy contract with little-to-no buy-out. If Fulmer gets it done, you re-ante on the contract. If he doesn't, you move on with what's likely a more solid framework.
