Sadly I agree with this thinking. Getting rid of him saves us a little trouble with the NCAA maybe. If his replacement doesnt pan out, I dont see why he wouldnt be considered. Unless your worried about more violations, but really who cares if our basketball program gets in a little trouble as long as we could go through another 6 years of exciting and winning basketball .
There is a precedent.
Ted Turner Fired Bobby Cox in 1981, then rehired him in 1985. When Cox was fired in 81, Turner indicated regret about it immediately. Things obviously worked out well the second time around.
I see a similarity. Most of us hate to see Pearl go (whether you think he had to go or not). I could definitely see a situation where he returns.
I think your avatar and your question share a lot in common. This is all hypothetical and please no flaming on this, but let's say whoever we bring in doesn't work out for us and we get rid of him 3-4 years down the road...does UT ever consider possibly bringing Pearl back after things blow over? If ESPN and other sports blogs think Pearl deserves another chance, then why not right back at UT?
Again, this is just a random thought that came across me today:crazy:
