Hindsight is 20/20.

Im not sure that if this job were still open that Gruden would not be interested in us but it would make me sleep better tonight if it was and he was.

I just cant stand that he might end up in South Bend.

Ditto that.....Kiffin was a hot commodity when we got him, I am not going to lie I didnt want him that much at first, I was on the Brian Kelly bandwagon but now that we have got him I feel like we done the right thing...Gruden would have been good but he would leave in a heart beat for the NFL again

it would have been a complete disaster to wait until now to hire a coach

I believe we have the right guy. Just look at step 1...the staff he has put together. Have some faith in the process. I'm sure we will be pleasingly surprised with the 09 class on NSD. These guys are recruiting animals.
I not so sure why so many were so up on Gruden. Hell, his record at Tampa was just barely .500 and he won the Super Bowl with Dungy's personnel

If we had waited this late we would have been epically screwed. Even if we would have hired Bill Cowher, and a young healthy Don Shula.

It's not too late in the process im sure they would have stayed on or hopped back on depending on who we brought in as HC.

You can't even argue that Jon Gruden would have made every recruit take notice if he were hired here while Kiffin has been known up until his hiring as the guy who Al Davis called a liar.

Jon Gruden would put us immediately at the top of the SEC over Bama and Florida.

Gruden is a more recognizable and more well known coach than everyone in college football outside of Pete Carroll,Bobby Bowden, and JoePa.

Tony Dungy didn't sign any of the guys on that team so how does it make it his personnel?

If I have a group of talented players that were Drafted or already in place that im the coach of and I underachieve for years and lose my job then the next coach comes in and wins with the same group of players, why should I be given credit?

Our commits would have backed out because we wouldn't have had a head coach for a couple months.

And Jon Gruden is a big name...but even his name would have a hard time pulling recruits from their current commits at other schools.

We hired the right guy.

I like where we are right now. I wouldn't risk losing what we have for Gruden, knowing what we now know about the staff assembled by Kiffin and the relative little damaged done to the recruits we had, plus the chance we have at more recruits.

I am not trying to be a homer, but we are about as well off as we could realistically be at this point, all things considered.

Didn't say Dungy should get any credit for the win. Just stating that apparently Gruden wasn't much for drafting the right talent for his system. His offensive genius never really showed up after that super bowl win. Record speaks for itself. He should have been fired two years ago for underachieving.

Outside of winning the SB his first year at Tampa, Gruden has done nothing in the NFL. Our coaching staff would have sucked and the money paid to Gruden would have been a waste. We got the right man for the job, and our assistants can flat out recruit. Be patient grasshopper and enjoy the journey.

Gruden has no patience with Qb screw ups. He would go freaken nuts with our 3 amigos. Not sure he has the desire to recruit either.
