Could Teague be a Mark Jones-type player?

I remember when our depth was short at reciever that Mark Jones would play both sides. Anyone thinks that would be good for Teague if he would play WR as needed a DB if recruits don't pan out? He was a better reciever than corner to me but if needed i think he would serve the team better being utilized similar to what Mark Jones had to do.

CB is generally considered the hardest position to play on the field, including QB, and it typically can take a season or two to adjust.

That being said, I think he'd probably be a better WR, JMO.

When Hunter went down, it wouldn't hurt to give him a few snaps since Rogers and early on, Rivera, was the only one catching passes. I believe Mark Jones was underrated because if was good at both but i feel Teague would be a better slot than Z. Rogers until the freshmen and next year class get adjusted. Arnett and Dallas will be good but I still think it would help to give him a few snaps. Just a thought.

He was a WR before he came to UT anyway, I wish we'd just left him there, but as fate had it, we needed more depth and that was the (unfortunate) alternative. Depth at WR is just fine now. He just needs to focus on playing CB and get better.

Yeah. Just thought about it the other day but I based the idea on the fact he was a better WR.

Pretty sure he was a quarterback in high school. I really wished he could have stayed on offense.

Kiffin had Teague as a WR. When Dooley took over we were short at DBs so Teague went there. That's why i don't understand you people giveing him crap over being a DB. He was trying to help the team. That being said i know he could have done better at WR because he could catch the ball unlike Z.Rodgers.:hi:

He was a QB in High School not a WR.. He has a lot more speed than what people think... He got burnt several times this year but I didn't really blame him on a couple of them. He had no safety help over the top. When JJ was back there last year did you see Teague getting burnt? NO.. Even the times when he got burnt He still had enough recovery speed to run the WR's down to save the TD.. I think 2 of the big plays he got burnt on we still held them to 3 Points and in the span of the game it was really insignificant.. He is definitely an offensive player. I give him all the props in the world for making the switch and trying to help out the team. I wish he could get back to WR maybe in the slot.. He is a solid route runner and can catch the ball well. But all that being said.. I think well still see him playing DB again next year...

Teague took one for the team and should be commended. He is playing out of position, doing his best, but gets flamed by some on this board. He is much better at WR, but had to fill a team need at a position where he is not really suited for.

WR should be good, we may take 5 WR recruits in this class with 2 studs and Arnett back. That should pan out to be 5 WR's that can play, and play well.

NO! Mark Jones is an all time favorite. He played so hard and he is our last great special teams player in my opinion........ Played NFL ball too. Teaque won't

not as athletic as Mark was. Teague is a smart player, just doesn't have SEC level skills for either position

I don't think it's really fair of you to say that... He was never given a chance at WR after his freshman year which was better than most of our freshmen this year... He's put on a lot of size since 09' also..

I won't disagree. maybe it isn't fair.. seems he has lost some speed since getting to Knoxville though.. maybe a move back to WR would be good for him but also be behind several that have been there..

I stand corrected. :) I guess seeing him play as WR with Koach Kiffy made me feel like he was a WR in HS. THanks for the corrections. :hi:

Gonna keep this simple. Teague took one on the chin for the team. He cannot play CB at an SEC level. He proved it over two seasons. He will not get physical in tight man coverage, has stiff hips and has no ability to recover. He is playing out of position, but he tries to the level of his ability. He is a version of Cobb. The two head coaches chose not to develop and showcase him that way. It's probably too late to change now.

Mark Jones was faster and a better athlete. His NFL play confirms that he had his niche. He played out of position most of his UT career as well. They finally got it right his senior year. Fulmer/Chief did it to Rashad Baker. Made a safety out of a small WR. He was lightening in a bottle in HS and was a top 10 rated WR. They converted him and he did go on to a 6 year NFL career. But he was simply too small to be a starting safety long term (see Bob Sanders) and too stiff to be a CB. Had they left him alone he probably would have been a special WR for years.

Sorry I sit in a part of the stadium where I never see the back of his jersey. I wouldn't know how to spell it. This may be because he's always faced the other way playing catch up because he's always getting roasted and burnt.

Maybe you should have used "going to" instead of "gonna". Maybe you should have used "it's" instead of "Its". But I don't mess up a lot, it was a typo.

But I still think he sucks, sorry.

Good comparison. Some of our younger fans don't remember when we threw Baker and Jabari Greer into action as young dbs and they got burned plenty, but have gone on to do well.
