Could Perlotte Play Safety?

So you do think they would use one of the Inside Linebackers as an Edge Rusher on obvious passing situations? That would certainly help with a lack of depth at the Edge.
I have no idea if they actually would. I'd say it's not 100% out of the question though, but I'd think most likely not. If we're using LBs as DEs it could be concerning. . . unless one of our LBs is just so good that you'd be a fool to not use them there. I'm not sure we have a freak like that on defense, but maybe we do and Banks just didn't do it.

Serious question. Does Knowles play 3 LB's? Seems like we have played 5 DB's almost every down since Butch arrived. I would think that in many situations the Nickel could be replaced by a 3rd Linebacker.

Thanks to AC returning, we seem to be rich at LB. Whereas the Nickel and Edge position depth is concerning.
As long as teams line up in 3WR sets u will see 5 DB’s and that’s nearly every down in college football

Defenses try to match personnel. More often than not, modern offenses have 3 WRs on the field consistently. In order to have an extra DB to account for that, you have to lose either a DL and run a 3-3-5 or a LB and run a 4-2-5.

He's listed at 6'4 and 210 and we all know wherever he goes he gets there really fast.

In the bowl game they had him playing some nickel. I wonder, with the linebacker room unexpectedly crowded if we could see some position changes to get as many talented players as we can on the field.
I think he’ll be used a lot as a 4-3 OLB who is matched up in coverage at times. Knowles is known for being creative and adjusting his defense to fit what opposing offenses do. Perlotte would be perfect for this role.

Knowles runs primarily out of split field match and man match quarters concepts. He runs a lot of 1 rat and cover 1 robber in his defense. I think Perlotte would be awesome as the rat or robber. Farooq will be great as a robber. I don't know enough about the new guys, but he brought them with him, so they are likely excellent in those roles.

Having a guy like Perlotte who could stay on the field, but change roles from rat to robber (1 rat is generally a lb and robber a safety) , would make him very valuable in this defense.

He doesn't do it a ton, but hopefully he uses perlotte as a spy vs dual threat guys while in rat/robber. I think he could really be elite in those situations. . .
I have to believe that is why we now have such a crowded (and talented) LB room on paper. Knowles is calling those roster shots on defense.
