He could, but doubt he will play as a legitimate safety. Maybe some sort of hybrid role in passing situations or against a dual threat QB.He's listed at 6'4 and 210 and we all know wherever he goes he gets there really fast.
In the bowl game they had him playing some nickel. I wonder, with the linebacker room unexpectedly crowded if we could see some position changes to get as many talented players as we can on the field.
While weāre at it give him the rock and let him run the ball! He's listed at 6'4 and 210 and we all know wherever he goes he gets there really fast.

I know who is qualified to make that evaluation. Knowles. He's listed at 6'4 and 210 and we all know wherever he goes he gets there really fast.

I haven't studied Knowles defense much, but I read somewhere that he uses that Hybrid Safety/LB more rather than the nickel that so many teams use. Perlotte fits that mold with his speed. He could, but doubt he will play as a legitimate safety. Maybe some sort of hybrid role in passing situations or against a dual threat QB.
That is what I've been hearing but, haven't really studied. I spend all my free time reading and posting crap here.Serious question. Does Knowles play 3 LB's? Seems like we have played 5 DB's almost every down since Butch arrived. I would think that in many situations the Nickel could be replaced by a 3rd Linebacker.
Thanks to AC returning, we seem to be rich at LB. Whereas the Nickel and Edge position depth is concerning.
Knowles runs primarily out of split field match and man match quarters concepts. He runs a lot of 1 rat and cover 1 robber in his defense. I think Perlotte would be awesome as the rat or robber. Farooq will be great as a robber. I don't know enough about the new guys, but he brought them with him, so they are likely excellent in those roles.I haven't studied Knowles defense much, but I read somewhere that he uses that Hybrid Safety/LB more rather than the nickel that so many teams use. Tons of talented young guys AND Telander to get us lined up correctly!Serious question. Does Knowles play 3 LB's? Seems like we have played 5 DB's almost every down since Butch arrived. I would think that in many situations the Nickel could be replaced by a 3rd Linebacker.

Yeah, that could work for a different aspect of the d. . . but in 1 rat the lb drops into mid or flat coverage. I'm not sure how good Carter can do that, compared to Perlotte or the new guys, assuming Carter returns to 100% health. The coaches believe in his ability to play in the new defense, so hopefully he's great at it.Carter should be the dline hybrid LB and Perlotte can be the safety hybrid LB
Or replace Spillman with Carter.
So you do think they would use one of the Inside Linebackers as an Edge Rusher on obvious passing situations? That would certainly help with a lack of depth at the Edge.Yeah, that could work for a different aspect of the d. . . but in 1 rat the lb drops into mid or flat coverage. It'd be interesting to see how he comes off the line as a DE, he'd probably make some plays there.
