Could History Repeat Itself?

I think history always repeats itself. I am waiting for the repeat of the 1939 team that went undefeated and unscored upon in the regular season.
The flip side of that is that we'll hire another Dooley, Butch and Gump somewhere down the line? Hope I don't live long enough to go thru that hell again.

Unscored upon will not happen again in D1 football. Football was a different game in 1939. Introduction of players being able to leave and return to the game ("free substitution") after WWII changed the skill sets and body types necessary for winning. The endurance required for a player to play all three phases of the game - offense, defense and special teams-without missing a down was no longer a primary requirement for playing. As a result skill positions became more specialized and body types became larger. Burst and speed became more important than endurance. There have also been 80 plus years of rule changes that enable scoring. There are also 2 more regular season games, plus bowl games are now counted/included in the record.
