On ESPN College Football Rumors
When rising junior Prentiss Waggner was moved back to S to cover for the absent Janzen Jackson, two players figured to have the inside track on Waggner's old CB spot: rising senior Art Evans and rising sophomore Eric Gordon, who each started six games a year ago. But true freshman Justin Coleman emerged as one of the team's surprises, finishing the spring listed as a co-starter with rising senior Anthony Anderson.
A three-star S in the class of 2011, Coleman enrolled early and quickly made an impact despite the presence of Anderson, Evans, Gordon and rising junior Marsalis Teague, who started eight games at CB last fall.
"He's a competitor; that's what I loved about him," Dooley said of Coleman. "You know those guys in high school that play everything and do everything? That was him. It just says something about their competitive nature."
Will all that talent -- plus a bunch more incoming DBs -- Coleman is far from guaranteed a starting job, but he should definitely be in the mix for playing time. "I think Justin is going to be a good solid player," Dooley said. "He's tough, he's physical, he's still light right now and he doesn't know the difference between Cover 2 and Cover 3. But that's OK. He'll get that. He's got the right kind of intangibles and he's instinctive."
