he hurt his wrist and left with it iced with the trainer. He will have X-rays. Maybe that is why he couldn't catch the big TD. Or maybe that is the cause of his wrist being hurt.

Injuries are starting to add up just a little.

Hmm, didn't notice that. Hopefully it's just a sprain. He was playing pretty hard.

No big deal, he's a non factor.

what?? Cottam was going to have a very big role in this offense with the lack of experience at WR. If he's healthy that gives Ainge a nice target out there. He is most definitely a factor.

Cottam is a heckuva target for Ainge, especially as a dump off. Not sure how anyone considers Cottam a non-factor. My assumption is....sarcasm or ignorance?

Dude, you really need to think about what you're posting. Saying that Brad Cottam, a 6'8" guy with good hands and a 4.5 40 is a non-factor for this season is asinine.

What has Brad Cottam done at UT entering now his 4th season?

Yeah, obvious observation is really bad, I should start basing my opinion on player size and Rivals rankings, not previous production (or in this case, lack of) and continuous dropped balls in practice.

Well, seeing as he was redshirted, then was behind someone for the next two years, I'd say his 14 receptions for 182 yards in 9 games was pretty good last year. We didn't plan on him being a big threat last year, because we had a great WR Trio. However, with this year's WR's being unproven, I think the TE will become pretty prominent. I think Brad has put himself into a position to be a great TE at UT this year. I saw nothing today to make me believe otherwise. We had him in the slot a couple of times today, that shows me the faith the coaches have in him.

I think he'll end up with about 20-25 catches this year.

You ask what he did in 4 years...he was low on the depth chart, but imo, has improved vastly. He is much more than a non-factor, and to say that you really are out of touch. The coaches OBVIOUSLY believe otherwise, else he wouldn't be a starter, and we wouldn't be seeing him in the slot.

That someone being Chris Brown, who is still on campus, no? Or are we using a two tight end set? Great take away a receiver who can't catch and add a TE who had dropped balls in practice.

However, with this year's WR's being unproven, I think the TE will become pretty prominent.

And Cottam is proven how, by 14 receiptions, 182 yards, and dropped balls this preseason? Hardly.

My point is I don't think Cottam is that good. I feel just fine with Chris Brown. He's not great or anything, but say what you want, he has been somewhat productive and has made big catches while being here just as long as Brad Cottam. So why would I make the assessment that Cottam is even a minor factor?

Good or not, Cottam was being used a whole lot in our schemes and playcalling. It is a big loss if he is out for a while because he is the only real experienced TE we have. Brown could be, but he is more of a HB. Don't forget we also have Holbert injured as well so there goes 2 of the 3 experienced TEs/HBs on the roster and we have been using them alot more than the WRs in the first 3 scrimmages and in practice. It's a little late to change philosophies, especially given the fact that our WRs are underperforming as well.

and btw, when he came up from that bobbled catch in the endzone, he came up with his left hand under his chest, pretty obvious pain.

At least a hurt wrist doesn't necessarily prevent him from blocking. But if Cottam really is a dropper, his injury-related inability to catch might be a blessing in disguise.

It's easy to break a wrist bone when you land on your palm, by the way. And, for whatever reason, some of those wrist bones take 3 months or so to heal properly.

I don't want to be negative though. I really hope it is not serious, and that Cottam has an All American season. I'm a supporter.

Well at least we stll have his brother...may be this is his chance to step up:banghead2:

If any of have seen Beerfest...this would remind you of how Lunchpail dies but then his brother shows up and is exactly like him...it's kind of amusing when I think about it.
