Your vaccine decreases the chance of you getting it and even more importantly of you not spreading it to someone that it could kill or devastate…just like every other vaccine.
The one thing that California has gotten right, an unvaccinated child cannot attend a public school system. That’s in regards to the standard childhood vaccines mumps, measles, rubella, chicken pox, polio, small pox, etc. The state didn’t mandate that you vaccinate your children, but if you don’t, they are not allowed to endanger others…
I think that is a reasonable idea. You actually have to have all of your childhood vaccines current to attend any college in the USA. What’s one more?
Prior to this rule, I got to see first hand what happens without vaccines.
There was a measles outbreak at Georgia Tech and as a medical student, I helped take care of a Sophomore that got measles pneumonia and was in the ICU for months. Nearly died. Otherwise totally healthy, but unvaccinated. Vaccines save lives.
That’s not political, it’s a great rule for the right reason. It’s unfortunate that the politicians, media and internet have turned this pandemic into a political arena.
I think it’s as simple as every other required vaccine. You have the right to not get the vaccines. The consequence is that you aren’t allowed to attend a US college or university. If you are already admitted, then to sign up for your next semester, you must provide your complete vaccination record. No one bitches about the chicken pox vaccine…
