As for the current team, Corey Vereen isn't sleeping in the complex again --- but Steve Stripling told us this week that in his long career, he's had some guys "kind of taste success and sort of level of, be content. But Corey, now, he's sour. You try to coach him, and he's like (angrily), 'I got it, Coach! I got it!' But he's all-in for us. He texts. I try to text all the guys at different times. But he's engaged. And you see with him he's got a whole other level he can get because he's had some success.

"Stripling's room, as has been previously noted, is among the team's most close-knit groups. That's the influence in a large way of Stripling and his wife, Gayle. She does holiday treat bags, from Halloween to Easter and more, plus routinely bakes cookies for the room.

The proverbial "light" comes on at different points of the developmental progression cycle for different people. The version of Corey Vereen that we have seen for the last three weeks is infinitely superior to what we saw previously.

He needs to keep listening to his coaches.

He's getting better but he has lots more potential to become even better.

In everything in life you never stop trying to get better.

VFL...GBO!!!

If he gets keeps playing like he has been past couple of games our defensive line is gonna keep forcing the O-Line to commit holding penalties. these young men are pure beasts

I just think back to wondering why big Mccoullough's light never came on. He would have been a monster

He had a pretty good freshman year and was noted as being one of the first in/last out of the gym guys. Good to see he got over the less impressive sophomore year and is back to where he belongs.

If the Vols can shore up the back end, the defense for 2016 should be very good especially if JRM stays....but that is questionable as is Sutton staying, don't you think?

I think he is the biggest reason Barnett's sack numbers are starting to climb, teams can't constantly double team him with Vereen coming off the other side now.

Absolutely. Good freshman year followed by the "sophomore slump."

They profiled him on a Butch Jones show. Impressive kid with real goals outside of football. But as it looks now, he may be drawing his weekly checks on Sunday for several years.
