Vikings are wise to cut loose CP. I hate it for him, but if he hasn't learned to run routes by now, I am afraid his NFL career is over. As a returner, he is electrifying. As a receiver, well not as much.

He is basically Forest Gump

This is unquestionably the funniest thing I read on here in a while ... after paying taxes this week (yes there are some of us that actually have to pay more and more taxes this time of year) I sincerely needed a good belly-laugh. Thank you. :)

So Patterson cannot run a decent bubble, a stop route, a go route, a sideline pattern, a crossing route? Strange, he did those routes at UT. Not buying it at all. It is more likely he does not block well. He needs to play for a team that is willing to design more of their offense for his athleticism, like Chaney was willing to do. Like some of the NFL teams that have no offense and score less than 20 points per game, while complaining they have no playmakers. Maybe some of them that have QB's making $10+ M a year that cannot hit a WR 20 yards downfield.

He was a terrible route runner at UT, he was just so athletic that he was able to overcome that. Talent level in the NFL is much more equal.

Guys like Devin Hester have survived for quite some time as being just kick returners and not very good WR's. I don't see any reason why CP can't be the same type of guy.

As much as a cluster**** of a head coach he is, Dooley knows the WR position.

Yeah, both Hunter and Patterson have been major busts in the NFL. Neither were ready for the league when they came it despite having sick physical skills....the guy shouldn't be allowed around a football field except to cut it.....

Bad for Patterson is the NFL has just about eliminated the kick return and may in fact do so in the near future. Just cant afford to pay a guy more than minimum if that is all he can do.

I love CP and want him to be successful in the League. Honestly I believe he could dominate on a team that knew how to use him. Cheney did a great job utilizing his talents with screens, crossing patterns, reverses and even toss sweeps while he was here. The Vikings have done nothing to use their asset besides let him return kick offs.

Very true, if CP had been in the NFL 10 years before now, he could have been in much higher demand. I don't believe he has returned any punts.....I don't think

He had 1 fair catch his rookie year.

Only caught 2 passes last year. Down from 33 the year prior and 45 as a rookie.

Report: Minnesota Vikings Unlikely To Pick Up Cordarrelle Patterson's Option - Daily Norseman
Knock on Patterson has been his weak route running skills.I understand that he has been working out with private coach over the off season.

He is one of my favorite VFL and provided some electrifying plays during his short time at UT.

Hope he can take his game a few notches higher this coming season.

It's not just his weak route running. It's also his inability or unwillingness to get into the playbook like a professional to absorb, understand and master the offense from things I've heard and read. Until he changes this IMO, his value will be significantly lessened and he's gonna struggle to be anything more than he currently is, which is a very good kick returner.

I think that's the difference between college and pro. You can succeed in college on speed alone. Not necessarily true in the pros.

Correct. He's been in the pros for years now, and he simply ain't gonna get it. He's got the natural athletic ability, just can't run the offense... requires reading proper zone v. man v. press v. stunt blitz defensive schemes, etc. etc. etc., communicating effectively with QB, and then running the right route in response. Brains are a big part of the NFL. He was a JUCO after all. Just sayin.

He got by all his life on pure speed and shifty moves.

That doesn't make it n the NFL for long.

He's lazy and won't seriously work on his craft.

Vikes gave him years to get serious and turn it around and he's done this to himself or else he just isn't capable.

Same is true for Justin Hunter and it breaks my heart because I had high hopes for him when my Titans went and got him.

In the NFL you get a certain amount of time to produce or they give up and move on to a different player.

I'm really hoping Hunter can explode into beast mode this spring and in training camp because him and DGB would be a awesome WR tandem.

Every team that can dedicate a roster spot to a return guy should want him
