This may seem like an asinine question but I guess I want some clarification. Is there an advantage with getting an offensive coordinator from the NFL with an established system as opposed to a College OC? I guess I’m one of those people that would like to see someone like Matt LeFleur from the Rams come to Knoxville but the guy from the Browns seems decent as well. Watching Baker Mayfield this year was fun! So I appreciate any guidance!

Why would a successful OC in the NFL come to Tennessee for the same job? It’s more likely that one of their offensive assistants would take the OC job. But to answer your question, experience is key on this hire. Something the majority of our staff didn’t have in their respective positions.

To escape Cleveland, Detroit or Buffalo

OP, is think that mit matter more if we had a coach who was partial to the offense (i.e. Malzahn, Mullen).

However he has made it clear, pro style is not optional. We need a strong run game.

Pruitt will value trust right now, but I know he emphasizes recruiting. That's why I don't think it will be from the NFL. But I'm just guessing.

Do NFL Coordinators make more $ than Coordinators at major College programs ?

If Pruitt can work it out, it will be Freddie Kitchens. They are tight and Pruitt trusts him and Pruitt instinctively gravitates towards people he views as his friends.

That is not good. Loyalty is great and all, but it’s about winning at this level, not hanging with your pals. If this were some D2 program, fine. But when you’re charging fans over $100 a ticket to watch the rest of the SEC treat the UT offense like a dog’s chew toy, I don’t care if they are best friends forever. Just win baby.

If we can't get a competent offensive coordinator for $1.2 million, then we are... ahhh, what's the point.

Kitchens is qualified. He may not be a sexy hire but he and Pruitt would be on the same page. HUNH chuck and duck isn't Pruitt's style.

Randy Sanders has taken a team that has been re-starter for 2 yrs. and went to the playoffs. He's familiar with UT, Fulmer and worked on offence before. Would he be a consideration?

Can't blame him. If you were handed the keys to a high pressure situation, with a rabid fan base, wouldn't you want the people you hired to have your back? I have no problem with people hiring "friends," as long as A) They are competent to do their job, and B) You're able to recognize when they're not, and conduct business when it needs to be done.
