Rez came out originally on DC. It's a kind of hybrid platformer/shooter with an audio and visual style reminiscent of the way people viewed games in the late 80's and 90's (think your parents view of virtual boy), in a way. The music builds in this game as you shoot your targets, so you in essence create the soundtrack as you go. You can turn off damage and such to just get through the game, but playing on harder difficulty levels, it's definitely one of the most challenging games I've ever played. The visuals toward the end are extremely imaginative so the payoff is worth it.
I've gotten somewhat back into video games lately, but the endless cycle of sports games and shooters like Halo and MW2, no matter how well executed, end up boring me. So I've been on a trip of finding games with unique visual style, where design and concept are really unique. Rez was absolutely the pinnacle of this when it came out.
Another new game I'm looking forward to: Muramasa The Demon Blade on Wii. 2D with a very unique look, and coming out to great reviews so far.
