This will probably get me flamed like a Smore's Outdoors, but this is how I feel.

I'm 36 years old. I don't figure we'll win another national championship in my lifetime. Now if I'm wrong, I will be as estatic and elated as the next Vol fan. I just don't expect it.

What I do expect, and what I would be very happy and contented in seeing, is my Big Orange winning the SECCGame and blistering somebody in the Sugar Bowl, and being competitive between now and then.

Honestly, winning SEC titles, I'm okay with that. I'm great with that. Nat'l titles are just icing on the cake.

Is this being realistic, or settling for less than we should as a fan.

Interested to see how this goes.

Sounds good to me. I think being the SEC champ probably gives us a good shot at being in the National Championchip game. So, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a National champ if we continually go to the SEC Championchip.

I'm happy with Tennessee packing it in and not competing for another NC. :)

Oh.. wait... wrong forum... :hi:

I feel confident that we will win at least one national championship sometime in the next 15-20 years. But hey, I could be completely wrong. I just think we are too good of a program not to come back from this mess.

pretty darn good chance that if you win sec, your in the champ game. Don't think there is anything wrong with your point of view. If we can play in an sec champ game once every three years and win one every six or so, I think that's possible, and gets us a shot at a national title once or twice a decade. Ok with me.

This will probably get me flamed like a Smore's Outdoors, but this is how I feel.

Who cares if they win another National Championship. The way most fans are now, they are never satisfied. If UT wins one then they ask when are we going to win again. I would just like to see UT get to the SEC Championship and win it!

Well, considering i didn't see it the last time we won an SECC let alone a NC, i certainly hope you're wrong. Considering i'm only 18, i've never even seen us beat Florida. I think i was either 11 or 12 the last time we did, and i didn't follow the vols back then. I didn't start following them until my cousin took me to Neyland for the first time and I saw them beat the s**t outta Cal back in '06, which would've made me 14 at the time. So basically, with the exception of one year, the Vols have been garbage since i've started following them. Will we win another NC? we very well could. Will we ever win the SEC again? even i know it's highly probable that we will eventually. Man some of you are ridiculous.

I completely agree with this. It's not like Florida and Bama will dominate for the next 50 years. Every great franchise has a downfall at some point. I remember when I was a boy and I just thought that Miami would dominate college football for the rest of my life. I have learned that every team has its ups and downs. We are obviously having some of the down times now, but our time will come, don't worry.

Heck i just wanna win something.im tired of reading on SEC standings mentioned with Vanderbilt, kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi St and Ole Miss. Humiliating, its those teams lot in life to be cellar dwellers we are suppose to be on a throne while the Georgias and Floridas of the world fan us while feeding us grapes.

At age 36, if anyone had told me we would win a NC in my lifetime, I would have laughed in their face. We were 6-5-1 that year. The prior year, we were 8-4-0. The year before-5-6-0. The year before that-7-5-0. And, the year before that-5-5-1. We were everywhere except being consistently good. It wasn’t anywhere near to being on my radar. Just a short 12 years later, we had it. So, anything is possible. :crossfingers:

we beat Florida in 01,03 & 04 Casey Clausen won twice in the swamp and the freshmen qbs Ainge and Schaeffer in 04. so it has happened in your lifetime.

All I want is another SEC Title in 6 or 7 years. I wouldn't mind another NC either, it would probably add some quality years to my life.

Like I told a guy on live radio the week before the Syracuse game in '98, we need to beat Syracuse, get to the Sec title game, win that and then let the chips fall where they may. The goal every year should to be to get to Atlanta and win the SEC, period.

I pretty much feel the same way. I'm only 25, but they've been to the mountaintop once since I've been following the Vols, and anything more is, as you said, icing on the cake. Competing year in and year out in the SEC is what I want to see now, and we're still a long way even from that.

I know. Read the rest of my post. I didn't start following them until i was 14. so I've never seen them beat florida.

You will get blasted. ha ha Nothing wrong with your post, I agree with your post for the most part. But here's my deal. You have to expect NC, at some point, but not the end all be all. What I mean is if we are competing and play well we should be grateful to the guys doing all the work. We as fans should expect to be playing for championships, but not freaking out with death threats and stuff like that. I remember the last NC, and you know what I was proud and loved it, but the next day my life was not changed and I'm no different today because it. As I get older I realize it's just a game, and I love it cause it's fun. It's great to watch recruiting, games and read stuff on here. But it is just part of what I do, not who I am. So I feel your post is part of the same feeling. Sorry so long, I just feel I understand your post, and not lost my edge. Cause I want to beat everybody every single time, I'm just not going on suicide watch if we don't. GBO:good!:

Feb 15, 2010. The day UT fans officially lost their edge.

To an extent, I feel this is a reflection of the attitute our athletic director has towards the football program. His expectations are far too low. I'm not saying I don't want UT to do everything in their power to try and win a NC, but, since they've already won it once in my lifetime, I won't feel slighted if it never happens again.

Maybe you could find somebody with tapes of the games so you could get really worked up on the Big Orange.

Well, i've seen highlights and replays that they show on CSS. They're great, especially the one where Travis Stephens went literally insane on the Gators Defense back in '01. But, it just isn't the same. Seeing the old stuff is great, but seeing it actually happen at the moment is on a whole different level.

Based on our facilities, recruiting budget, etc I think its reasonable to expect UT to win the SEC East once every 2-3 years and win the SECCG every 3-5 years.

But our program is a bit behind Florida & Bama right now to realize those possibilities.

Wow people are either gloom and doom or stupidly homeristic about Tennessee football. You people make it seem like there is no in between...you are either a radical pessimist or radical optimist.
