Congratulations to Mashack

I didn’t expect him to be drafted but that’s really awesome for him. I hope he can carve out a role. The Tony Allen comp some have made seems like a good one. Only thing is nowadays, you still have to be able to shoot a bit if you are a Tony Allen type. Hard to see the floor these days if you offer nothing offensively. But I think there is reason to believe he may be able to hit corner 3s at a high enough rate that he can get some run. He had limited attempts and they were all pretty much wide open, but he shot 35 percent from 3 as an upperclassman. If he could hit 35% of his open jumpers in the NBA, he will probably find a role.

Am I crazy to think that he could give them the defensive oomph that they used to get from Dillon Brooks but without all the ill-advised jumpers?
Brooks had a totally different body type than Mashack. JM will be a defender first, but he will probably be on guards and leaner small forwards, whereas Brooks was a bit bulkier. Wasnt a POA defender but was able to defend some of the bigger small forwards in the league.

Mashack is nowhere near the level of douchebag that Brooks is. Likely never becomes the laughing stock of the league like Brooks was in his last playoff run with the Grizz. Also Mashack doesn’t inexplicably think he is the best one on one scorer on his team, which is something Brooks has never gotten over since his Oregon days of being The Guy.

Totally made the draft for me. So happy to see Chaz land in a good spot in Detroit, but Jahmai getting drafted and therefore a contract is incredibly great. A hard worker and just a great kid getting rewarded - it doesn't get better than that. He's got a chance in Memphis to carve out a role in the Dillon Brooks 'defensive stopper' role.

And my Sixers signed Igor as an UDFA, so he'll be on the summer league squad. Along with ZZ, that's four from the Elite 8 group with a shot at the big time. Good times for UT hoops.

Also 5th in minutes on Monday night...a really encouraging sign....as well as 9 dimes...gotta maybe work on the 10 fouls.

I watched. It wasn’t like he was getting beat and fouling. Played great D including against their 5. But with 10 fouls he took some extra hacks. Led breaks off rebounds and steals more than he did at UT and made the right and on time decision. Assists weren’t really a fluke.
