Prior to this game, I thought this game would define for me how good Shoop is going to be. I have been critical earlier in the year on how pitiful our defense had been the last few games (yes, I know there were a bunch of injuries).

With a month to prepare, I figured if he is as good as everyone thinks he is, he should be able to come up with a solid game plan for Nebraska. I'm glad to see that our defense played a good game tonight. We held Nebraska to 257 yds passing and believe it or not, 61 YARDS RUSHING!!!

Way to go Shoop and D, great job tonight. :clapping:

Our defense really played better today. We got burnt on a few passing plays, but it was much better than those last 3 games.

Shoop needs to bring in his own staff and Whitehaven could have beaten this Nebraska team.

To be fair, they did have a walk-on playing QB.

To be clear, I'm happy with the result. But I don't think it clarifies anything about Shoop just yet.

Outstanding defense up front today, but I still question the technique of the backfield.

I'm not saying the D was perfect, but it was a drastic improvement over the last few games. I do agree our corners / safeties (except for Sutton) seem to struggle to find and play the ball. Foreman and Mosely seem to never turn their heads and get snagged on consistently.

To be fair, we played some pitiful offenses the last few games and we made them look amazing. I'm just saying Shoop was able to work with the talent he had left, come up with a solid game plan and we played a good game on D tonight. If it had been the same result as the end of the year, I would feel very different about Shoop. But he showed me something tonight playing a solid game with a depleted team.

Martinez has got to go. Cover skills have been non-existent by our secondary. Other than that, the defense played pretty well today.

I told everyone that he is a genius. Shoop just had some bad injuries this fall. I would guarantee he totally does more with less next year.

He had the team prepared to play 4 quarters today. Clear to me he is the guy we need coaching the D.

I can't do it because I'm not willing to forfit my Man Card.

However, if anyone is willing to post an embedded link to Salt-N-Pepa's "Shoop" video on this thread, I'll create multiple accounts and like you're post.

Martinez is kept around for his recruiting ability. He has numerous contacts from his time at UGA that allow him to get us players. Of course he isn't that good of a coach but keep him for recruiting.

Then put him in an office recruiting and keep his a&& off the field.

Interesting - when the defense plays good it is all Shoop and when the defense plays poorly it is all Coach Jones. Some of you never fail to amaze me.

But yes the defense looked a whole lot better and in sync against Nebraska.

Lol we just lost out to Kentucky for a 3 star cb that was supposedly high on our board. I think you are overstating his recruiting prowess just a bit.

DB's tried to tackle high on edge plays. Lost count of how many missed tackles I saw due to that.

And somebody, please...teach them how to turn and look for the dang ball.

Fix that, and our back 7 could be strong next year.

Go Vols.

Yeah, I can't put much stock into this game given the talent level at Nebraska.

Good win, glad they didn't give up 600 yards again, thrilled when Barnett got the record, but I don't think there should be too many takeaways from this game defensively.

Jones absolutely has to get rid of Martinez in short order.

That's pretty much the litmus test for me on where Jones ends up in Vol history. If he can't see how putrid the secondary played this season fundamentally and make a change, then I hold little hope for him lasting much longer.
