I still wonder if we can stop the run and run the ball
effectively

I will settle for stopping the run. I think the secondary will be better than advertised.

Thanks for the contribution WW.

Well if we don't,it's gonna be a long season.Because common sense tell ya if you can't run the ball and stop the run 9 times out of 10 bad things happens.

Over the last few seasons, these reports would worry me because of the resounding mental atmosphere of our program. I think we lacked the aggressive mentality to overcome obstacles more so than lacking talen or coaching. {The fact that we heard more excuses than solutions during that time is noted}. From the reports I've read here and elsewhere, the atmosphere and attitude seems different. I look for us to make headway back to the aura we lived in for so long.

What's the word on Colquitt? I thought his injury was fairly minor and that holding him out was precautionary. But I was listening to the Knoxville station via internet and sounds like Colquitt's dad said he was not sure if he'd play at Cal. That could be a huge loss.

compared to that of Cal, whom has all the pressure of winning this game on their shoulders, not ours.

I don't see UT winning the Cal game without Colquitt. Hope he heals fast!

Thanks for the report WW. Interesting though slightly depressing read. I think we all just need the season to start. This has got to the way it feels for women in the last week of pregnancy. Just get it (the wait) over already. Let's play some Big Orange Football!

Its college football. This assessment is probably the same for most teams in the nation. Won't be the same positions but everyone has holes from year to year.Guys come and go every year.We just need to play at this point. There will be some weak spots. But overall i have to feel like we are better in both lines. If our secondary can be just solid.I think the linebackers will be good possibly great,we will have to see.You got to like the fact we have a veteran qb.Man is next saturday here yet!:dance2:

Thanks all for reading. I'm enjoying the opportunity to contribute to this board. I reallly think the Colquitt story is one worth watching this week. He may be our most effective weapon against DeSean Jackson.

I have a big concern. Cal loves to throw the football and is very very good at it. It seems our D-line won't be anything special this season so I doubt we will be able to get that much pressure on the qb. With our secondary being so inexperienced I think we could be in for a long day. I mean with no pass rush the db's are going to be chasing wr's all over the field. I'm just very nervous about that.

I wish Ben Martin were ready to rock it off the end - but even without his injury, I don't think that he is ready to be that kind of gamechanger yet. Hopefully we will see an effective pash rush, and who knows, maybe Chris Walker will shine at DE if he gets a chance. Who do we expect our most effective pass rushers to be this Saturday?
