Will coaches Fulmer,Cutcliffe and Chavis continue with the same old same old or will they do some lateral/out of the box thinking this season when calling offensive and defensive plays?I for one certainly hope so.

Well, I guess I can only hope, but who knows...I guess we'll see come 9/1/07.

The defense has been working with Cowher alot on new coverages and the 3-4. They have stated this offseason that their defense is outdated and SEC teams have caught up to it and have exposed it so they plan on adding new wrinkles. The offense has worked with no huddle and mustang packages. Will any of this happen? IDK, but we will see in a little over a month.

I didn't know the Cowher bit....

As to the offense, Fulmer and Cut have made it pretty clear they think they need the Indy offense in order to keep SEC defenses from scheming them so much. Yes, we will see it.

I think we will se the 3-4 because the better athletes are at LB and the Vols have to stop the run this year.

Oh god! They have a Mustang package on offense too? Is it designed to lose 15-40 yds a play?

hell no. and they wont start any true freshmen either. those who think otherwise are kidding themselves.

You're wrong. At least two freshmen will start. Vinson and Berry.

Kidding themselves?????????????? Remember '04 season. They did the unthinkable and started a true freshman QB.

By the way, I think some of that problem can alleviated by athletic LBs who can shoot the middle gaps....

I agree. I am a bit dumbfounded by the continued talk about how deep we are at LB. Are we REALLY?

Mayo
McCoy
Karl

All have meaningful PT.

Wilson
Meyers-White
Davis
Donald

Only AMW has PT, and he only had a little. I honestly don't think we're deep enough (yet) to be confident in a 3-4 at the LB spot, either.

Martin and Donald would probably play in a 3-4 as an OLB.

I'm pretty sure the DEs get sucked into the LB depth chart in a 3-4....?

Yes, which means that those LBs will not be able to support pass coverage thereby leaving a very inexperienced secondary exposed.

Just seems to me that an experienced coordinator who spent some time studying the whole deal could come up with the answer to such obvious difficulties as the one you mention 'Billy.

And there are very real advantages to boot. Like for example inside out speed against the likes of Tim Terrific when he goes bolting off left end... Blitz disguises.. zone disguises... QBs who don't see a whale of a lot of 3-4(most) now have some real homework to do before they can grasp what they are looking at.

I believe 3-4 is a worthwhile venture. I also have no clue whether Chavis would really consider doing it.

Whoever said Chavis and Cowher discussed 3-4, I'd love to hear more about that.

3-4 is actually an interesting idea against the Spread Option. Florida is not going to be running a lot of dive plays up the gut in the first place, so having a big NT to stop the run shouldn't be as much of a problem.
