My laptop recently got a crack in the screen(not on the surface, inside of it). It is black and is getting longer. I think I still have the warranty and may have insurance, but would they cover this? It is a Dell and only about 8 months old. I don't know how the crack came about.

White out works great.

Depends on what level of service you bought with computer. Call them and tell them situation.

I'm not talking about the cover. Why would I wanna put duct tape or white out on the screen? LOL. The crack has to be inside of it because I can't feel it, but I can see it obviously.

You shouldn't. I was only joking because I lack an intelligent response.

Call Dell. I'm quite certain they can answer this question a lot more definatively than we can.

It may be dead pixels and not a crack. :dunno:
wouldn't it be unusual for dead pixels to form in a line?

Before Dell became such a giant, the opposite was true. Sad that what got them where they are has been lost.

This is similar to a crack on the screen of a calculator, bot are LCDs, except your calculator isn't as complicated. Point being, if you have better than a 1 year replacement warranty, I'd say Dell will tell you to ship it to them and they'll replace the LCD. If for some reason they refuse, you'll still need to have the LCD replaced, and Dell would be the best company for the job. Find out how much it would cost to replace the screen and go from there.

Yeah, I talked to a tech support agent at Dell and he said my warranty doesn't cover accidents or normal wear and tear. He said that they didn't have the tools to fix it but told me that I have to contact the out of warranty support and ask them.

And now the crack stretches from the center at the top of the screen almost to the bottom left corner.

That there are far better price points to be found elsewhere. That's nothing new... that doesn't attest to them being poor quality or anything. Every Dell machine I've fooled with, especially laptops are of good qulaity.

and HV, that support guy was full of sh*t. They repair those things all the time, he just didn't know what he was talking about. Sounds like time to call out of warranty service... but be prepared to go find a deal on an Acer or Gateway, as that may be cheaper than getting Dell to repair your LCD.
