Got a problem with my computer at home. I have a linksys wireless router for my laptop. I also have a desktop computer. I got the laptop/router about a year and a half ago and set it up and everything has been running fine since. A couple of weeks ago we painted our den and had to rearrange. In the process, I had to unhook all of the modem/router connections. After I hooked everything back-up, my desktop will not connect to the internet, but my laptop will. I have called our internet provider and they said that the problem is with the router and not the modem. I called Linksys and they said the problem is the modem and not the router. Anyone have any clue what the problem is?

*Please dumb down the answer as much as possible.*

try:

start > run > and type "cmd"

then

type "ipconfig release" enter

then

type "ipconfig renew" enter

See if that works.....

If the above doesn't work (it should)------

Your modem is fine. It's the router.

If you have the manual, unplug it and press the reset button for 10 seconds or so. Then, start your installation from the beginning. Or, if there's a "reset to factory" setting in the router control panel, click it.
