I just thought of this while reading a few other posts on here and other places. Is our team TOO complex for these players to run what we require them to?? Is it time to simplify the playbook WAY down on both sides of the ball so we can get these young players in that we were all raving about?? Maybe I am off my rocker in thinking this, but we don't have players other than Ainge who seem to grasp what anyone is doing with them on either side of the ball and that is VERY sad. Urban's offense was so damn vanilla that anyone could play in it, which is another reason we should be worried.

Dude...our problem yesterday was not the complexity of our scheme. Their players were head and shoulders better than ours and then our players gave up. We were outplayed and outcoached....AGAIN!!

I don't see the complexity of our offensive scheme, which seemed to include 5 or 6 plays, with some ever so slight variants of those plays.

Fulmer would agree, our schemes are very complex. That is why it takes 2 years to get any athletically gifted athletes on the field. Meanwhile, UF hikes the ball and runs left or right for 30 yards.

If you think there were 5 or 6 plays . . . then you're right. You don't see the complexity of our scheme.

Good Lord, do any of you think Tennessee's offense is anywhere NEAR as complex as the Spread? We've had that "complex offense" sunshine blown up our collective arses every time the team can't seem to convert 3rd-and-8 by throwing a 5-yard pass.

Tennessee's "complex" offense:

Basic I-formation running plays

Horizontal/short passing plays (wide receiver screens and the like with the occasional 5-7 yard crossing pattern)

Medium length passes to either sideline

Fade pattern in the end zone

Real dad-gummed complex.

The schemes aren't where the complexity lies. It's the 20 reads per play that have to be made. Our coaches force our players to outthink themselves. Urban lets his players just play. He gives them the plays and they execute them.

referring to the title of this thread: two definitions of complexity....

1. characterized by a very complicated or involved arrangement of parts, units,

2. so complicated or intricate as to be hard to understand or deal with

There was no complicated involvement and our gameplan wasnot hard to understand, thus making the title of this thread pointless, thus making this thread useless, thus making me not really like Fulmer anymore

When only one freshman can grasp the playbook on offense that is a receiver, and he still doesn't play that much then its probably too complicated. Florida beat us with 4-6 plays and like Coach Boone on Remember the Titans stated, "It's like novocaine, just give time it always works." Which is why Tebow was able to do what he did ALL DAY on our D.
