Oregon beat us 48-13 at Neyland in 2010.

How do you think this years team compares to 2010's team under Dooley?

Better or worse?

Do we have the D to keep them from scoring more than 48 points this year?

I think there's is no way Tennessee stops Oregon from scoring 40 points,Oregon has too much blazing speed.

Our performance during the second half Saturday gives me reason to think that Butch Jones and staff are able to make adjustments at half time. I don't think Dooley did a good job of this. The score was tied at half time in 2010. Chip Kelly must have made some positive adjustments. With that bad storm, there were a couple of opportunities for coaches to make adjustments in that game. I believe our guys are better conditioned now as well. I hope to see the VOLS give a good game to the ducks.

We hung with Oregon that year until what inevitably happened during all of Dooley's games, the 2nd half meltdown. I think this years Oregon is more talented, they have home field advantage, and our secondary is much worse than 2010.

That being said, as another poster mentioned this coaching staff made adjustments against WKU and showed that they aren't just circle jerking during half time like their predecessors. This one could end up being closer than I initially thought, but Oregon still pulls away, IMO 45-28.

Keep in mind, the 2010 Ducks team played for the title. I still agree with about their talent level and they could easily play for it all this year. I just can't wait to watch this game to gauge how we stack up against a top five team.

Butch being compared to Dooley??? Are you serious? Come on, OP. Just yesterday, we got 5 turnovers in 6 plays. We may struggle beating ranked opponents in our rebuilding a program, but we will get better game by game. Dooley comparison is crazy.

I watched the Duck's game. I don't think we win a shoot-out with them. The keys in my opinion are to constantly line up in different O formations and keep them guessing. When they think run - we pass to the flat; when they think pass, we go draw play; when they think screen pass, we hit them with a slant; etc. We can't be even remotely predictable. Every O down is important - none whatsoever to waste.

The defense is going to have to play alot of spy formations - one on the QB and the other on RB. Those guys can take it to the house from the parking lot. They run more than they pass; they set up the run nicely with your LBs 10 yards off the line (thinking dump pass) and then their elusiveness makes you miss in space.....then off to the races.

To have any shot, our O-line needs to perform like their pre-season billing and our front D 7 must play very disciplined football.

Secondary is worse than 2010?

The defense must account for meriota and thomas every play and they use the TE a lot. DL stunts and disguising secondary coverages may be helpful. Every team is beatable. :yes:

I'd say they are very similar and would imagine the score would be close to the same. Now, having said that, we have to remember Oregon's at home....not good.

I think that's where the no huddle offense becomes an asset. Unless Worley randomly starts calling audibles on the line then we should be ok. Shouldn't be much to the student section in the stadium either since their classes don't start until Sep 30th.

The student section was full for the NSU game, well until halftime when they all went to cheech it up. I think it will be full for the Vols.

Watching your game yesterday, the thing that stuck out to me the most was the difference in attitude when things weren't going perfect. That is all CBJ imo. Gonna be a fun game.

So as a true Ducks fan what are your thoughts, points wise, on this upcoming game?

I think being at home is worth 7 to us and we have 7 more advantage in QB play.

We've got a few issues right now, stupid costly penalties, play calling isn't quite as sharp as it was with Kelly, LB's are still finding their way and Lyerla banged up his hand a little bit carrying the ball in the first game. Minor things that will work themselves out over the year but might cost us a score or two early on.

I'm going to say 38-24 unless the wheels really fall off (conditioning wise) for the Vols in the second half.

I see it being a little different... 42/45-24 Oregon. I see you guys putting up 35-38 with your vanilla offense and are spotting you 7 on a ST play.

And, to be honest, losing by 18-21 @Oregon for your third game isn't that bad, IMO.

Agreed. I think the current line (21ish) is about right.

That the game where WE played pretty good...FOR A HALF!
Oregon ran away with it in the 2nd half. 2010 recap by quarter
Q 1 2 3 4
Or 3 10 14 21--->48
UT 6 7 0 0--->13

This time, were better coached, have more discipline, and MAY be able to play a full game IF WE CHOOSE TO!
If we don't sag like we did in the 2nd quarter against WKU, we might have a chance to at least make it interesting.
GO VOLS!
