Coming to Tennessee!

Hello Tennessee fans from Calgary Alberta Canada. I am a life long football and college football fan.. and I've just booked time off work and got my flight+hotel with a buddy to come to nashville and knoxville for the 3rd week in october. I can't tell you guys how excited I am that my 1st college football experience and my 1st time in the States will be revolving around Neyland stadium and the Vols! I just wonder what kind of tips you could offer to a traveller looking to take in the experience as thoroughly as possible. Are there tours of the stadium/campus? Tailgating? The tickets themselves... should I get them before I come to TN, or, can I count on scalpers? Thanks for any tips!

Just a silly question, but How can the 4th Saturday in October be in the 3rd week of October?:)

1 week away from me flying out to nashville! i am stoked. if anyone here on the forums is having a tailgate going on for the game, let me know. me and my chick friends are looking to take in all the sights and sounds of knoxville. so far the plan is to leave nashville at 6am (stupid time difference) and meet a poster here in knoxville for tickets, then head out to the game at around 10. when is the vol walk usually? where can i expect to park? if i come out on friday or earlier, is there a tour for the stadium or day of?

While you are in Nashville, go down to Germantown and have some good southern food at Monells. Family style eating at a big table with other people and massive bowls of food. Prepare to nap afterwards. Also, check out Jacks BBQ.

sorry to bump this thread again but we've got our plane tickets hotel booked, hockey tickets, NFL tickets, just need Vol tickets! Stub hub seems over priced, any way I could get tickets before we wind up at the stadium? I dont like risking it to scalpers :S

There should be plenty of scalpers and available tickets. I used Stub Hub and got a decent deal on a front row seat, home side, BUT I was only looking for one ticket. The scalper prices should go down closer to kick-off, too.

Your trip sounds awesome. Can I be your tour guide? One of the previous posters mentioned Monell's. You should check it out when your in Nashville. It has been a couple of years since I went there, but I don't doubt the quality has changed. Calhoun's is good, but it's a regional chain and you can stop by one in Nashville/Rivergate. I would skip that while in Knoxville and hit up a local place. I'm sure you already know this but tripadvisor or maps.google and pick a place that sounds good to you and works with location and price.

Also you metioned Dollywood and Gatlinburg. If I were you I would skip that tourist trap from hell unless you were going to rent a cabin. If you want to see the mountains there are much better places to visit that are nearby.

I'm not sure how old you are or what you are into, but there are a lot of fun bars in Nashville as well. There are tons of honky tonks downtown, Flying Saucer if your a beer connoisseur, and plenty of places to catch a local rock band, which believe it or not most in town are good.

Keep us posted on how your trip goes.

I think I saw in the ticket forum that you found tickets to the game. If so, great. If not, my advice is to do what you have to do to get tix well before kickoff. You HAVE to be inside the stadium before the band takes the field for pre-game. Don't chance it. Have a great trip.

I am so excited about you coming to the game!!! I took my son's friend to his first college football game ever this year, and he's a solid Vol fan now.

And I'm a little jealous of your vacation. :) How awesome is that???

GO VOLS!!!!!! Enjoy your time in Neyland.

When you get down to the stadium, you may be able to swap 2 and cash for four, depending on where your 2 are.

Don't dis Oklahomo. The only thing that keeps Texas from sliding into the Gulf is the fact that Oklahomo sucks.
